As a long-time admirer of Kevin Costner’s versatile acting skills and his knack for tackling diverse genres, I find myself thoroughly intrigued by his latest venture, “Headhunters.” While I’ve always cherished his iconic roles in Western films, the prospect of witnessing him navigate the thrilling waters of surf culture and horror is nothing short of exhilarating.
Although still working on an extensive historical tale, Kevin Costner plans to retire his cowboy persona and venture into a new cinematic genre for his upcoming film.
Though he’s renowned as one of the top Western actors of his time, his upcoming film is set in stunning Bali and features surfing as a central theme.
The film, known as “Headhunters,” will be jointly written and produced by Kevin Costner. In this production, he assumes the role of Lazer, an enigmatic American expatriate, who relocates to Bali. Alongside a band of surfers and a photographer, he embarks on a quest to discover the ultimate wave at an unexplored island. However, their adventure leads them into the domain of a tribal group known for headhunting.
The movie is characterized by a thrilling blend of the dynamic vibe from surfing lifestyle and the tension of a horror plot.
Following events unfold into a thrilling tale of survival, tainted with brutal incidents, set upon a seemingly idyllic tropical island. However, as the story progresses, it becomes increasingly clear that this place, far from being paradise, bears more resemblance to hell.
Under the direction of Costner’s production company, Territory Pictures, headhunters are set to be made, with Scott Steindorff also serving as a producer on the project.
Steindorff stated, “For many years, my friend Kevin and I have been seeking the perfect project to work together on. This script I’ve come across is one of the best I’ve encountered in my career. Kevin, a renowned actor known for his rich performances, has teamed up with Steve to pen an unforgettable horror script.
In a change of command, the leader at Horizon will not be in charge; instead, that position is assigned to Steven Holleran. This will mark his first time directing a feature film, having previously served as the cinematographer for “Missing”.
In addition to Costner, the thriller will also feature Daniel Zovatto, a familiar face from the series “Station Eleven.
Costner is still committed to Horizon
Regarding “Horizon: An American Saga,” it seems that Costner is yet to tie up the loose ends of his four-part narrative.
As I sit here, lost in the virtual worlds of my gaming setup, I can’t help but feel a buzz of excitement. You see, I’ve learned that Kevin Costner might just join me in one of my favorite upcoming games, “Headhunters,” which is now gearing up for pre-production and set to start rolling come November. However, the future of parts 3 and 4 remains uncertain for now. But hey, a gamer can dream!
Initially planned for a August debut, Part 2 has been taken off Warner Bros.’ schedule, leaving its new launch date undecided.
At the 2024 Venice Film Festival, Costner expressed a heartfelt statement, saying to the media: “I’m not sure how I’ll manage to create three more at this moment, but I’m determined to do so.
Should a fourth Horizon film be produced, Costner predicts that the total production cost could exceed $100 million.
