Kevin Bacon’s New Netflix Hit Suffers a Huge Setback

In 2025, it was an exciting time for fans of Kevin Bacon. He began the year by starring in the action-horror TV show “The Bondsman,” and later delved into the world of a limited series as well.

Shortly after, Bacon received another success with the highly anticipated premiere of “Sirens” on May 22. However, as it stands, “Sirens” has faced a significant hurdle and failed to sustain its position at the summit of streaming charts. Consequently, it dropped to number 10 in the rankings.

The limited series climbed rapidly into the Top 10 rankings in a staggering 90 countries, reaching the number one spot in 44 of them, including the U.S. In its second week, it amassed even more views. Despite the general slowdown in viewership, Sirens remains at the pinnacle of English TV charts, boasting 18.2 million views and 86.3 million hours watched .

Despite dropping to second place in its third week, the show consistently gained numerous new viewers each week. To date, it has amassed an impressive 52.9 million views over six weeks. The dark comedy limited series garnered positive reviews from critics, earning a 75% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes – sufficient for the “Certified Fresh” badge. However, viewers seemed somewhat ambivalent towards the series, awarding it a modest 60% score on the Popcornmeter.

The arrival of the series “Sirens” was perfectly timed for fans of Kevin Bacon, garnering an impressive 83% rating from critics and 77% from viewers, labeled as ‘Certified Fresh’. Unfortunately, Prime Video chose to terminate the project. The unfortunate news of its cancellation was disclosed on May 17, a mere few days prior to the series’ premiere on Netflix.

What Is Sirens About?

The storyline of “Sirens” unfolds across a weekend, focusing on the character Devon DeWitt, who grows progressively worried about her sibling Simone’s questionable relationship with her older work associate. This compelling limited series takes place within an exclusive beachfront property and delves into the complex issues of gender, power dynamics, and social stratification. The series is the brainchild of Molly Smith Metzler, who also drew inspiration from her 2011 play titled “Elemeno Pea.

Meghann Fahy takes the lead role as Devon, while Julianne Moore plays Simone’s wealthy employer. The cast additionally features Kevin Bacon as Peter Kell, Glenn Howerton as Ethan Corbin III, Bill Camp as Bruce DeWitt, and Felix Solis as Jose.

After the final episode, Fahy spoke about a potential continuation for the series Sirens, despite it being created as a limited one. “It concludes in a very organic manner,” Fahy stated. “However, I can envision what the characters’ lives might evolve into. Personally, I am curious about Michaela’s journey and where she ends up. So, I believe it’s not entirely impossible. We didn’t discuss it on set, but I would be thrilled to explore more.

Sirens is streaming on Netflix.
