Kendrick Lamar to Perform at 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show

As a longtime hip-hop enthusiast who’s witnessed the evolution of the genre since its golden age, I couldn’t be more thrilled about Kendrick Lamar’s return to the Super Bowl Halftime stage. His performances are always a testament to the power and influence of rap music, and it’s a joy to see an artist who understands the importance of culture and history in his work.

On Sunday, it was revealed that Kendrick Lamar is set to take the stage during the 2025 Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, an event organized by Roc Nation, Apple Music, and the NFL.

The upcoming Super Bowl, number 59, is set for February 9, 2025, and it’ll take place at the Caesars Superdrome in New Orleans. This grand event will be broadcasted by Fox.

During the upcoming halftime show, Lamar will be making his second appearance. Previously, he was part of Dr. Dre’s 2022 supergroup featuring Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent. This performance is also following the musical competition between Lamar and Drake earlier this year, where he emerged victorious, and their song “Not Like Us” became one of the year’s top hits.

With Lamar’s comment on his relocation, he expressed: “Rap music remains the most influential genre so far,” he stated. “I will ensure that the world remembers this fact. I am the best choice for the job.

Jay-Z, founder of Roc Nation, stated that Kendrick Lamar is a one-of-a-kind artist and performer who emerges only once in a generation. His deep passion for hip-hop and its culture significantly shapes his artistic perspective. With an unprecedented talent to impact and mold global culture, Kendrick’s artistry goes beyond music and will continue to resonate for many years to come.

The creative guidance for Lamar’s show will come from his own company, pgLang, the same team behind his critically acclaimed “Big Steppers” tour that took place from 2022 up until a few months ago.

Last year’s headliner, Usher, was followed in appearance by Lamar, who also performed alongside stars like Alicia Keys, Ludacris, and H.E.R. Notably, Rihanna graced the stage during the 2023 halftime show while she was pregnant. Additionally, a superstar lineup from 2022 included Dr. Dre, Kendrick Lamar, Mary J. Blige, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and 50 Cent.

Starting from the 2012 drop of his groundbreaking debut album “Good Kid, m.A.A.d City” on a major label, Kendrick Lamar has undeniably emerged as one of the world’s most significant and impactful rappers. He has amassed an impressive total of 17 Grammy awards and made history in 2018 by becoming the first non-classical, non-jazz artist to receive a Pulitzer Prize, for his album “Damn.” His latest work, “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” was unveiled in May of 2022.

This year, I’ve been thoroughly enjoying the music scene, and one track that really stood out to me was “Like That” by Future, Metro Boomin, and Kendrick Lamar. Released in April, this song ignited a musical battle with Drake, and it ruled the Billboard Hot 100 for three whole weeks! Fast forward to June, and another fantastic track, “Not Like Us,” claimed the top spot for a solid two weeks.

The production of the Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show will be handled by DPS, with Roc Nation and Jesse Collins acting as executive producers. Hamish Hamilton will take on the role of director. Additionally, Roc Nation will provide strategic guidance for the live performance.

Oliver Schusser, who holds the position of Vice President at Apple for Apple Music, Apple TV+, Sports, and Beats, announced that “The Super Bowl Halftime Show on Apple Music is a grand tribute to the music we cherish and the outstanding musicians who create it. We’re excited to share this spectacular event, featuring the extraordinary Kendrick Lamar, with fans globally, offering them an exceptional Spatial Audio experience through Apple Music, as well as numerous exclusive videos, interviews, playlists, and many more exciting features across our platform.

Seth Dudowsky, who oversees music at the NFL, stated that “Kendrick Lamar has made a deep mark on both music and culture. Over and over again, Kendrick showcases his exceptional talent for creating moments that echo, transform, and ultimately cause seismic shifts within hip-hop. We’re thrilled to be partnering with Kendrick, Roc Nation, and Apple Music to bring yet another awe-inspiring Halftime Show.

This year, Usher’s Apple Music Super Bowl LVIII performance broke records as the most-watched halftime show ever and received three Emmy nominations for 2024, including Outstanding Live Special Event. In 2023, Rihanna’s Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show earned five Emmy nominations, winning two, which was a first in Super Bowl Halftime history for the category of Outstanding Directing For A Live Special Event. The previous year, the Super Bowl LVI Halftime Show featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar netted five Creative Arts Emmy nominations, ultimately taking home three Emmys, including Outstanding Live Special Event – a first for the show.
