Ken Jeong to Star in Fox Comedy Project Inspired by Senator Barbara Boxer’s Early Congressional Career

Ken Jeong, who serves as a panelist on “The Masked Singer” and the host of “I Can See Your Voice”, has agreed to take on the role of a politician in an upcoming project currently being developed by Fox.

Jeong is slated to headline and co-produce the one-camera sitcom titled “How Can We Help,” which revolves around a political setting. In this series, Jeong portrays Jimmy Choi, a freshly elected congressman from Boston’s 10th District who just so happens to be a successful stain remover entrepreneur. As the story goes, he creates quite a stir for his team of staffers – an interesting twist since they didn’t vote for him in the first place.

As a passionate cinephile, I’m eagerly anticipating “How Can We Help,” a captivating series inspired by the early political journey of the esteemed Senator Barbara Boxer from California. Although the show is not a biography per se, it’s rooted in her initial steps into politics. However, it’s important to note that none of the characters are direct representations of Sen. Boxer herself, as they are amalgamations instead. Remarkably, Senator Boxer and her talented daughter, filmmaker Nicole Boxer, will take on executive producer roles in this exciting production.

This television program is developed by Adam Chase, who previously led “Friends,” and Andrew Lenchewski, a collaborator on “Royal Pains.” Besides his role in “Royal Pains,” Lenchewski has also been involved with the Boxers in creating the FX drama “Run.” The inspiration behind “Run” was Senator Boxer’s early campaign for Congress. However, “Run” wasn’t commissioned as a series.

This represents the most recent self-cultivated undertaking for Fox Entertainment Studios, an internal production division responsible for series such as “Animal Control,” featuring Joel McHale, a fellow actor from “Community” starring Jung.

In addition to Jeong, Chase, Lenchewski, and the Boxers, “How Can We Help” will also have George Heller of Brillstein Entertainment Partners as an executive producer.

Jeong is set to make a comeback on comedy TV series after his two-season run as both star and co-creator of ABC’s “Dr. Ken.” His latest stint at Fox was in a dramatic role for an episode of the anthology series “The Accused,” under the direction of Michael Chiklis. Now, Jeong is a regular fixture at Fox, appearing as a panelist on “The Masked Singer” and hosting and executive producing “I Can See Your Voice,” now in its third season. When these two shows air consecutively on Wednesdays, Fox refers to it as “Kensday.” Other recent works include his Netflix standup special “You Complete Me, Ho” and the “Community” series, while he is also renowned for “The Hangover” film series, “Crazy Rich Asians,” and “Ride Along 2.”

Regarding Chase, he’s a three-time Emmy nominee who has worked on shows like “Friends” as well as serving as co-executive producer on “Mom”. Lenchewski is known for producing “Royal Pains”, which ran for eight seasons on USA Network. Heller’s resume includes working on the Disney+ series “The Mighty Ducks” and the film “Last Days”, directed by Justin Lin, which debuted at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival. Nicole Boxer served as executive producer for the CNN documentary “The Hunting Ground”, focusing on college campus sexual assault. Additionally, Senator Boxer represented California in both the House and Senate for a total of 34 years before retiring in 2017.

Similarly, both Lenchewski and the team of Lenchewski are under WME’s representation, along with Andy Galker and Alan Wertheimer at Jackoway. The Boxers, however, have Linda Lichter as their representative.
