Ken Jautz, CNN Executive Who Helped News Giant Run, to Exit

As a long-time admirer and observer of CNN, I must say that Ken Jautz‘s departure from the company at the end of this year is undeniably a loss for the network. With an impressive 36-year tenure under his belt, Jautz has been instrumental in keeping CNN running smoothly and shaping its identity.

Ken Jautz, an important senior executive at CNN who was instrumental in keeping the news organization running smoothly and in shaping some of its most well-known on-air personalities, plans to depart from the Warner Bros. Discovery operation before the end of the year.

In a memo sent out on Wednesday, Mark Thompson, who heads CNN as its chairman and CEO, stated that Ken, who has been with us for 36 years, feels it’s time for him to embark on a fresh journey. He further mentioned that expressing the extent of Ken’s influence on our brand is not an easy task.

In fact, Jautz played a significant part in shaping CNN during his leadership. He managed HLN initially and later took charge of CNN’s technology and facilities. Under his guidance, CNN significantly impacted its international operations, infrastructure, and its influence on popular culture. During the coronavirus pandemic, it’s possible that CNN might have had to shut down without Jautz. Furthermore, personalities like Nancy Grace and Robin Meade may not have gained their broad national recognition without him.

In 2022, when Jeff Zucker stepped down unexpectedly as CEO of CNN, Jautz took on the role of interim co-CEO for the CNN business.
