Kelly Dalton Exits Netflix and Launches Higher Altitude Productions

Netflix executive Kelly Dalton is leaving Netflix to establish her own production company, named Higher Altitude Productions. The primary goal of Higher Altitude Productions is to instigate change and foster a sense of community through the tales they narrate, and to share authentic, heartfelt stories that resonate with their audience.

Dalton expresses that movies have significantly influenced his personal journey, leading him to spend the past decade disseminating narratives. He’s grateful for his experience in talent management and award events, discovering through this journey the immense healing potential of films. In the upcoming phase, he intends to leverage his expertise and connections to spin yarns that spark transformation and foster unity – starting with sharing his own tale.

The initial narrative Higher Altitude Productions plans to share is Dalton’s personal journey with sexual abuse and her pursuit of Restorative Justice as an alternative for victims. Disappointed by the lack of effective justice options – either prosecuting her abuser or remaining silent – Dalton sought a different approach from her legal team. She discovered Restorative Justice, a unique form of criminal justice that prioritizes meeting the needs of the victim, ensuring offenders are held accountable, and fostering healing among all parties. This method focuses on dialogue, empathy, and rebuilding relationships, enabling individuals to recover from the trauma inflicted by the offense.

Dalton has learned through personal experience that one of the most challenging aspects of overcoming rape isn’t the assault itself; it’s the lengthy, unseen journey of rebuilding your life afterwards. Two years ago, after enduring 12 years of struggle and trauma following her abuse, Dalton opted for restorative justice. This process had such a profound impact on her that she now feels compelled to share it with others, so they too can learn about this path towards healing.

Dalton shares his unique experience of finding resolution, hoping it serves as comfort to others who’ve been through the same, reminding them they aren’t isolated in their journey – they have the right to recover at their own pace.

Dalton intends to draw from her personal experience of resilience and fortitude to motivate others to express themselves confidently and reclaim control. Apart from nurturing the project, she’s also working on a script for it.

Originally hailing from Toronto and harboring a deep passion for cinema since childhood, Dalton kick-started her career at the Toronto International Film Festival as a temporary employee for LTLA Communications. Later, she relocated to LA to continue working with the firm before joining Netflix in 2018. With seven years spent at Netflix, where she held the position of Senior Director of Talent Relations & Awards towards the end, and over a decade of experience in the film industry, Dalton has been an integral part of over 80 Academy Award campaigns.

Over the past seven years, Netflix has been the studio with the most Oscar nominations four times, including seven consecutive Best Picture nods. During this period, the Netflix team accumulated 163 Oscar nominations and took home 25 awards. While at Netflix, the team was involved in the film campaigns for numerous productions such as “Maestro,” “The Power of the Dog,” “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” “Roma,” “The Irishman,” “Marriage Story,” “My Octopus Teacher,” “Period End Of Sentence,” “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,” and many more. In 2025, Netflix made history by having “Emilia Pèrez” earn the most Oscar nominations for a non-English language film in Academy history.

Before Netflix, Dalton’s career was marked by numerous critically acclaimed films such as “Lady Bird,” “La La Land,” “Room,” among others. Her efforts contributed to the Best Picture Oscar wins for both “Spotlight” and “Moonlight.” Collectively, these films have garnered a staggering 200 Oscar nominations, and her campaigns have claimed over 35 statuettes. She has collaborated with esteemed directors including Martin Scorsese, Bradley Cooper, Noah Baumbach, Alfonso Cuarón, Greta Gerwig, Barry Jenkins, Jane Campion, and Guillermo del Toro.
