As a passionate cinephile, I’m thrilled to share that Keke Palmer has opened up to the Los Angeles Times about her forthcoming memoir titled “Master of Me: The Secret to Controlling Your Narrative.” This captivating book promises to reveal an intriguing tale, one which suggests a challenging encounter with Ryan Murphy while working on “Scream Queens.” For those who may not remember, I was enthralled by Keke’s portrayal of Zayday Williams in this Fox horror-comedy series that graced our screens for two seasons in 2015 and 2016.

According to The Times, Palmer shares in her book about a conflicting schedule situation where I admire how she planned to attend another business commitment on her day off. However, when the day arrived, production informed her that she was needed on set instead. Intriguingly, she chose to honor her prior engagement, which led to an intense phone call with Murphy where he expressed his displeasure and labeled her as unprofessional.

Palmer explained to the publication that it felt similar to being in the dean’s office. He said the person was taken aback, expressing surprise by saying, ‘I’ve never seen you act like this before. I can hardly believe that someone like you would do something like this.’

I’ve attempted contact with Murphy’s spokesperson for a response; however, the showrunner hasn’t yet responded to our inquiry at The Times.

Palmer expressed regret to Murphy for missing the shoot that day because of an earlier work commitment, thinking it had resolved the matter. Yet, some days afterward, during a conversation with a fellow actor in her dressing room, she learned that Murphy seemed to remain upset.

Palmer expressed, “Ryan chatted with me, and I think he’s alright, no big deal,” to which she responded, “That’s not good,” in an attempt to scare or worry me, which was somewhat annoying, as he explained.

In “Scream Queens”, notable cast members like Emma Roberts, Niecy Nash, and Billie Lourd were joined by Palmer. She had hoped that being part of the series would elevate her to the category of actors frequently appearing in Ryan’s projects. However, she feels that opportunity may have been lost after Murphy criticized her harshly.

Palmer explains in his memoir that Ryan may not have fully grasped or shown concern, but that’s alright since he was focusing on his own business. This doesn’t bother Palmer, and here’s the key point: Palmer makes clear that even if they never collaborate again, Ryan understands that I, too, view myself as a business entity.
