As a seasoned movie buff with a soft spot for buddy comedies and a keen eye for recognizing talent, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement as I delve into this fresh project by TriStar Pictures. The untitled comedy starring Keke Palmer and SZA is shaping up to be an absolute gem, with the recent additions of Dewayne Perkins, Amin Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis, DomiNque Perry, Tony Baker, Nefetari Spencer, Rizi Timane, and a host of other accomplished actors.

The upcoming buddy comedy produced by TriStar Pictures, featuring Keke Palmer and SZA, is finalizing its cast by bringing on board Dewayne Perkins, Amin Joseph, Gabrielle Dennis, and DomiNque Perry.

Details about the storyline and character roles are being closely guarded for this upcoming production, penned by Syreeta Singleton and helmed by Lawrence Lamont.

As a cinephile, I’m proud to have been nominated for an Emmy and to have worn multiple hats – writer, producer, actor, and comedian. My latest role can be seen in “The Blackening,” a project I co-wrote with Tracy Oliver. You might also recognize me from the new Apple series “The Studio,” Netflix’s “The Upshaws,” and Peacock’s “Saved by the Bell.”

Joseph, both an actor and a producer, is most recognized for his portrayal of Jerome “Unc” Saint in the FX series “Snowfall.” Lately, he has also appeared as a recurring character in the FX shows “Justified: City Primeval” and “Send Help,” which airs on ALLBLK. Beyond that, he’s worked on projects like “Baywatch,” “Dope,” “The Royal,” “Transparent,” “The Expendables,” and “Stuber.”

As a movie critic, I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing Dennis’s captivating performances across various platforms. From HBO’s “A Black Lady Sketch Show” to Apple TV+’s “The Big Door Prize,” Netflix offerings like “The Upshaws,” and past hits such as “Rosewood,” “The Bobby Brown Story,” and “The Game,” Dennis has consistently left a lasting impression on me with his talent. Each role showcases his versatility, proving him to be a dynamic actor who truly embodies the characters he portrays.

Perry gained recognition for her frequent appearances as Tasha on the series “Insecure.” At present, she is starring in “Diarra From Detroit,” which marks Kenya Barris’s initial project for BET+. Besides these, her acting portfolio also encompasses roles in “Bust Down,” “Rap Sh!t,” “Snowfall” and “Get Hard.”

I’ve recently become part of a cast that includes stand-up comedian and actor Tony Baker, known for shows like “Last Comic Standing” and “Whiplash”. Also joining us is Nefetari Spencer, recognized from “Reasonable Doubt” and “Young Rock”, and Rizi Timane who’s been in “Decker” and “New Amsterdam”. I’m excited to be working alongside such talented individuals!

As a long-time fan of comedy, I am thrilled to see such a diverse and talented cast assembled for this upcoming comedy. With Lil Rel Howery, Janelle James, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Keyla Monterroso Mejia, Maude Apatow, Katt Williams, Joshua Neal, Aziza Scott, and Patrick Cage all starring, the untitled project promises to deliver a hilarious and engaging viewing experience.

The producers for this project are Issa Rae and Sara Diya Rastogi from HOORAE, Deniese Davis from ColorCreative, Charles D. King, James Lopez, and Poppy Hanks from MACRO Film Studios. Singleton is a co-producer, while Palmer and Sharon Palmer from Big Boss are executive producers. MACRO Film Studios is also contributing financially to the project.

The project originated from Sony Picture’s collaborative lab, known as CoCre, which was an earlier agreement between ColorCreative and Sony Pictures. This partnership aimed to discover and nurture up-and-coming diverse screenwriters, providing them with the opportunity to create and write their initial studio feature based on original concepts.
