As a long-time fan who’s seen Keanu Reeves grace both the big and small screens with his captivating presence, I am absolutely thrilled about his latest venture – voicing Shadow for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. His dedication to the role is nothing short of impressive, as evidenced by his extensive research and tireless efforts to perfect the character.

Later in 2023, Keanu Reeves will provide the voice for the character Shadow in the upcoming film Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Interestingly, this isn’t the first time Reeves has been involved with video games; he previously worked on Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077. Before assuming the role of Shadow, Reeves prepared extensively for it, as confirmed by Sonic 3 director Jeff Fowler.

During an interview on Sonic x Shadow Revolution’s Twitch stream, Fowler expressed that Reeves was deeply committed to crafting a portrayal of the character that would resonate strongly with fans. He took the time to thoroughly research the role and demonstrated his preparation during their initial meeting. I must emphasize the admiration I hold for Keanu and the exceptional contribution he made to the character and the overall filmmaking process. I am confident that audiences will be deeply captivated by Keanu’s interpretation of Shadow in this movie.

According to Fowler, he found the character amazing and had a clear grasp of our vision. His enthusiasm for his portrayal was palpable. Just like the rest of the cast, he was dedicated to nailing it perfectly and took great pride in his work… He presented numerous takes on line deliveries and was eager to continue refining them. It wasn’t just a matter of showing up and reciting lines from a script.

It seems that Sega appreciates Reeves’ interpretation of Shadow, as he’ll also lend his voice to the character for the Sonic x Shadow Generations DLC in the Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Movie Pack. This DLC is scheduled to release on December 12, with Sonic the Hedgehog 3 set for December 20. Moreover, Reeves’ voice and likeness will be featured in a secret level of Prime Video’s Armored Core episode, which is part of their animated anthology. This anthology is slated to premiere on Prime Video on December 10.
