Kate Hudson’s Glorious Album: Everything You Need to Know

It might be unexpected for some to learn that despite being a well-established Hollywood A-lister, Kate Hudson is also capable of creating music. In fact, she wrote not just a song but an entire album named Glorious in 2024, marking her debut in the music industry. While many know her for her roles in films such as romcoms with Matthew McConaughey or her Oscar-nominated performance in Almost Famous, her career on the big screen has been the primary defining factor of her. For those who are not very familiar with her, it’s possible that they might be taken aback to discover she released an album.

Kate Hudson, who is well-known for her acting roles, has also shown her talent in music. For instance, on the hit show Glee, she showcased her singing abilities. In the film Nine, directed by Rob Marshall, she sang an original piece called “Cinema Italiano”. More recently, Hudson starred and sang in the 2021 musical, Music. It’s not common for actors to transition into singing careers, but Kate Hudson has successfully done so.

Kate Hudson Felt Like This Was The Right Time To Release An Album

She Found Releasing An Album A Scarier Prospect Than Acting

Kate Hudson didn’t have a specific triggering event to launch her 12-track album “Glorious”; instead, she felt that the time was right. Interestingly, she has been writing songs for a long time, as mentioned in various interviews (from Vulture and CBS).

“Really poorly, my whole life! I guess I wasn’t ready for it until now.”

Setting modesty aside, it’s evident that music has played a significant role in her life for quite some time. Her biological father, Bill Hudson, was the vocalist for The Hudson Brothers, a band based in Oregon, specifically known as a garage group. Although she doesn’t maintain a close relationship with her estranged father, there’s no questioning that some of those musical genes have been passed down to her (as reported by People)). Despite her remarkable achievements, Hudson felt a touch of apprehension when releasing her album. She expressed this worry in her own words, stating…

I possess a resilient spirit, able to navigate harsh criticisms and chaotic environments related to performance, fashion, or other fields. However, when it comes to expressing my personal feelings, sharing my love for art, and exposing myself publicly, I find it daunting and painful. I wasn’t prepared for that level of vulnerability yet. Consistently, I have declared: if I delve into music, my passion for it is too profound not to treat it with the reverence it deserves. I don’t desire to rush in, rely heavily on other writers, and disregard the esteem this art form commands. Instead, I feel compelled to immerse myself fully and execute it correctly. Simply put, the time had not yet arrived. In truth, I didn’t elect to have the opportunity.

In my perspective, I didn’t explicitly set a date for the release of my album, nor did I have a particular plan while compiling the tracks. I simply enjoy singing, and I chose songs that seemed fitting. It’s quite daring to compile an album in this manner, just gathering what I know and releasing it for the world. However, despite the seemingly random approach, there are some recurring themes that can be noticed, and I have acknowledged these during our discussions.

One reason I found the album title, Glorious, appealing is because it’s incredibly introspective. It encapsulates a multitude of love stories from my life, including those with my children. One track offers a third-person perspective, although I won’t reveal which one as it might alter the song for everyone. The song reflects how one of my partners viewed me, and I wrote it from his point of view. I aimed to be more of an open conduit. In essence, the album is like a life that has been deeply loved, encompassing the good, the bad, and the ugly. Even a fleeting encounter with someone can be glorious. I believe there’s no narrative that feels like it starts at the beginning, continues through the middle, and ends at the end.

Instead of being a tribute to someone or signifying a particular moment in her life, this album serves as a compilation of topics she deems worthy of song. And that alone makes it a compelling reason for her to share her music with us.

Glorious Released On May 17, 2024

The majority of the tracks on the album were penned within a span of two weeks, and had Hudson chosen, the album could have been extended in length. (as reported by Billboard)

The process felt almost instantaneous; it was as if we had unlocked a conduit. At a certain moment, we composed three tunes in just one day, and Linda exclaimed, ‘I believe we should halt. I think we’ve got material for two albums.’ We could have continued creating endlessly.

This new artist’s first attempt is quite promising, implying that she has the talent to produce another album in the near future, should she choose to do so.

“Right On Time” Is About Hudson’s Mother

Goldie Hawn Did Not Know Her Daughter Was Making The Song About Her

As a movie enthusiast, I can’t help but share the exciting news: my beloved Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson’s mother and an Academy Award-winning actress, is the inspiration behind the 13th track on the deluxe edition of the album, “Glorious”. Titled “Right on Time”, this song is a heartfelt tribute to none other than my iconic mom. In a special moment shared with NBC, Kate revealed that she played the song for her mother without disclosing its subject matter first. What a surprise it must have been!

Initially, she seemed perplexed, asking, “Could that be about me?” To which I replied affirmatively. Her response was, “Oh, my goodness!” She then replayed it and listened intently, becoming deeply moved.

The tune features the words, “Mommy had a tongue that delivered the finest lines“, hinting at her mother’s successful acting career, where she memorized script dialogues. Similarly, “And dancing feet were always her calling” suggests her early years as a ballet dancer (as reported by HelloMagazine). One particularly striking line in the song is, “She traveled a hundred miles to Baltimore / In a run-down Cadillac with holes in the seat.“. When questioned about this verse, Hudson confirmed that it indeed happened (as reported by LATimes).

Absolutely, “Indeed, she would cover her feet due to the numerous holes in the floor of their family Cadillac. This was her father’s car, and during her commute to dance class, she did this to protect her feet. Upon arrival, she’d need to immerse them in warm water because they were frozen from the cold.

Hudson said about writing a song about her mother,

In my opinion as a daughter, it seems our role is to continue the narratives that our parents have started. Her tale, in particular, is captivating – a journey of fame that began in a humble duplex home in Takoma Park, Maryland.

The tune is charming and memorable, serving as a touching tribute to a woman who holds great significance in Hudson’s personal history.
