Katamari Damacy Rolls On With Its First New Game In 8 Years

After nearly a decade, Katamari has made its return with Katamari Damacy Rolling Live, available exclusively on Apple Arcade starting from April 3rd. Additionally, five other games will be introduced alongside Katamari: Space Invaders Infinity Gene Evolve, Puffies, Atari’s RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic+, The Game of Life 2+, and Sesame Street Mecha Builders+. Notably, all these games are entirely free of ads and in-app purchases.

Similar to previous games within the series, Katamari Damacy Rolling Live tasks players with rolling their Katamari ball as commanded by the King of All Cosmos, with the goal of collecting various objects and filling the sky with stars. In this version, there’s a new “streaming” element added to the gameplay.

Currently, players must rejuvenate the king’s live broadcast by rolling their Katamari to produce stars again. As the game progresses, virtual spectators start appearing in the ‘comment box’, and the more they play, the bigger their audience becomes. Players move forward in the game by accomplishing the king’s tasks and increasing their subscriber numbers.

Following a modest victory in Japan, the Katamari Damacy series eventually transformed into a beloved cult favorite and one of the highly-rated games during 2004. Its subsequent installments, We Love Katamari and Me And My Katamari, were introduced a year later on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable platforms.

The latest installment in the series is Katamari Damacy Reroll, a remake of the 2004 original. It initially came out for the Nintendo Switch at the end of 2018, and later appeared on PlayStation and Xbox systems in 2020.
