Karan Johar to Host Indian Adaptation of ‘The Traitors’ for Prime Video (EXCLUSIVE)

As a longtime fan of reality TV shows, I’m absolutely thrilled to witness the Indian adaptation of “The Traitors” coming to Prime Video. Having followed the U.K. and U.S. versions with bated breath, I can’t help but feel a tinge of envy towards Claudia Winkleman and Alan Cumming for their captivating hosting skills. But fear not, dear viewers! With Karan Johar taking on the hosting duties for the Indian adaptation, we’re in for an unforgettable, unpredictable journey.

Amazon’s Prime Video and All3Media International are gearing up for the Indian debut of the popular reality series “The Traitors,” with celebrated media personality Karan Johar taking on the hosting role.

The improvised show, modeled after the BAFTA and Emmy-winning concept developed by IDTV and RTL Netherlands, is set to be manufactured by BBC Studios India Productions. This program will only be accessible via Amazon Prime Video, with Hindi as the primary language accompanied by English subtitles.

In “The Traitors,” 20 competitors find themselves in a grand royal residence, vying for a substantial reward by participating in both physical and mental tests. Unbeknownst to many of these participants, a few have been assigned as “traitors” whose objective is to secretly eliminate the “honest ones”, all while avoiding detection themselves.

Since its premiere in the Netherlands in 2021, the format for “The Traitors” has been modified and implemented in more than 20 different countries. Currently, approximately 30 unique adaptations of this show have been commissioned globally.

Nikhil Madhok, who is in charge of originals at Prime Video India, stated: “The Traitors” represents a major milestone for us as we explore creating highly engaging and binge-worthy unscripted content. This distinctive reality format has captivated audiences worldwide in multiple regions and languages. To match the excitement of this show, we are delighted to have Karan Johar as the host, who will undoubtedly increase the drama and entertainment.

Johar expressed: “I’ve grown into a devoted fan of the format after watching both the U.K. and U.S. versions, particularly Claudia Winkleman and Alan Cumming who are captivating as hosts, combining elegance with suspenseful drama that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I am elated to step into the role of host for the Indian adaptation of this popular show, now available exclusively on Prime Video. The twenty contestants are in store for an incredible and unpredictable journey, especially since I’ll be pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Sabrina Duguet, APAC executive VP at All3Media International, stated: “The unique idea and design of the program offer the distinctive suspense and excitement that have drawn viewers worldwide. With its Indian adaptation, this captivating content will now reach an even broader audience via Prime Video. Our partnership with BBC Studios India Productions demonstrates our mutual ambition to create one-of-a-kind, absorbing reality programming that not only amuses but also engages the public. We believe ‘The Traitors’ will spark a fresh wave of fan culture in India when it debuts on Prime Video.

As Sameer Gogate, General Manager at BBC Studios India Productions, I’m thrilled to share that “The Traitors” is an enticing blend of wit, strategy, cunning, and drama. It’s a game that tests your intellect, nerve-holding ability, and attitude when faced with unforeseen situations and conflicts. This unique combination promises captivating entertainment for everyone.
