Karadec’s Heartbreak Reveals Why He’s Perfect for Morgan

In the eighth episode of High Potential, it seems that Morgan and Karadec from the LAPD might develop a deeper relationship beyond their professional bond. Throughout the first season’s 13 episodes, Kaitlin Olson as Morgan Gillory and Daniel Sunjata as Detective Adam Karadec displayed an exceptional working partnership. As Morgan’s unique genius was paired with Karadec’s rigid Detective, initial distrust gave way to a growing camaraderie. By the end of season 1, they began to adopt each other’s characteristics: Morgan is becoming more attuned to protocol, while Karadec is learning to appreciate eccentricity.

Watching High Potential is certainly worthwhile due to the blossoming bond between Morgan and Karadec, but what truly sets this series apart is its richly developed characters within the LAPD team. Lead by Lieutenant Selena Soto (Judy Reyes), we also have Daphne Forrester (Javicia Leslie) and Lev “Oz” Ozdil (Deniz Akdeniz) who add depth to the storyline. Although Morgan is relatively new to the unit, there’s a powerful chemistry that emerges during group scenes, making High Potential even more captivating. It’s apparent that Major Crimes highly values Morgan, and in season 2, we might witness the deepening of one professional relationship further.

High Potential Episode 8 Revealed Karadec Has An Ex-Fiance

Lucia Left Him With A Blue Rose

In episode 8 of “High Potential”, Karadec shared details about his past love with Morgan. The episode “Obsessed” delved into one of the challenging cases from season 1, where the LAPD could solve an attempted murder by revisiting an old, unsolved case. When Morgan arrived at Karadec’s house to study the evidence, she spotted a painting of a blue rose on the wall. As she examined it, she mentioned that Italians interpret blue roses as symbols of “unattainable longing” in love, but Karadec dismissed her interpretation.

In the latter part of the episode, Karadec unveils the past truth with a wistful gaze at the painting: it was Lucia who gifted him the blue rose, a woman he had once proposed to many years ago. The eighth installment of ‘High Potential’ didn’t go into great detail about the circumstances, but Karadec hinted at their relationship’s failure through vague remarks. As Karadec explained it, Lucia deserved to marry someone “who wasn’t more in love with something else” (referring to his work). Although Karadec’s dedication to solving mysteries may have jeopardized a potential marriage, Morgan had a similar albeit smaller-scale experience during ‘High Potential’ season 1.

Both Morgan & Karadec Were Dumped By Their Partners For The Same Reason

They’re Consumed By Their Work

Just as Lucia realized that Karadec would always prioritize work over their relationship, the romance between Morgan and Tom in the series “High Potential” ended due to JD Pardo’s character being unable to understand Morgan’s relentless pursuit of truth. In “High Potential”, Morgan is constantly engrossed in her cases, often losing sleep when justice hasn’t been fully served. With her mind always racing at high speeds, it appeared to Tom that she was intentionally ignoring his messages.

Interestingly enough, although Morgan and Karadec follow distinct methods when it comes to casework, they share an unwavering, almost excessive, commitment to their professions – a trait that has unfortunately led them both to sacrifice personal relationships. I first encountered this relentless dedication in Morgan at the LAPD, and even then, I struggled to comprehend how she could disregard her own wellbeing and personal life so often. Morgan’s decision to end things with Tom in “High Potential” wasn’t a dramatic spectacle, but it might as well have been a farewell gift of a mysterious blue rose.

Morgan & Karadec’s Shared Flaw Means They Have A Better Understanding Of Each Other

What Ended Previous Relationships Would Strengthen Theirs

In a way that subtly highlights their romantic connection, we could say: The persistent quest for truth by Morgan and Karadec may have caused some friction with past relationships, however, it strengthens the base of their bond. From the very first episode, High Potential has been building a slow-burn romance between them, and small gestures like the blue rose demonstrate how compatible they are. Both Morgan and Karadec share an unquenchable desire to set things right (with Morgan’s being particularly intense due to her HPI). This shared trait makes them ideal partners in the LAPD bullpen, and their connection could potentially transcend professional boundaries.

In the world of police procedurals, it’s often a well-worn trope for partners to develop romantic feelings. However, the connection between Morgan and Karadec in High Potential is undeniable, despite their relationship still being in its early stages. The show cleverly hints at their past romances intertwining, suggesting a deeper emotional bond. The eventual romance between Morgan and Karadec will likely have its highs and lows, but episode 8 of High Potential promises that one common conflict will be avoided. Instead, we might see them both overworking as a shared challenge in their partnership.
