MIGRANT MOSAIC

As a seasoned movie reviewer with a penchant for stories that resonate deeply and celebrate diversity, I am eagerly anticipating the release of “My Melbourne.” Having spent years immersed in the rich tapestry of global cinema, I can’t help but be captivated by this anthology film that showcases the vibrant immigrant experiences in Australia’s cultural melting pot.

A sneak peek has been given for the movie titled “My Melbourne,” which is an anthology film highlighting various immigrant stories in Australia’s cultural hub. Funded by VicScreen and Screen Australia, this production unites four renowned Indian directors with up-and-coming filmmakers to delve into topics like identity and sense of belonging. The movie will kick off the 15th edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM), taking place from August 15-25.

The anthology comprises four distinct parts, each exploring a unique facet of diversity. Onir helms “Nandini,” a collaboration with William Duan that portrays the story of a queer Indian man rekindling his relationship with his father. Arif Ali takes charge of “Jules,” while Imtiaz Ali serves as creative director and also co-directs with Tammy Yang, presenting an unusual bond between a newlywed and a homeless person.

Rima Das is the director of “Emma,” a movie that Samira Coxx also co-directs and tells the story of a deaf dancer’s path to self-acceptance. On the other hand, Kabir Khan and Rahul Vohra direct “Setara,” a film where Puneet Gulati is the co-director, depicting the journey of a young Afghan refugee discovering her identity through cricket.

The movie was crafted by Mitu Bhowmick Lange AM, who additionally oversees the International Film Festival of Melbourne as its director. The film employs dialogues in English, Bengali, Hindi, Dari, and Australian Sign Language.

LEGAL LUMINARY

Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) has appointed Ritesh Khosla as its new legal head, starting from September 1. Khosla, who has been the deputy general counsel at SPNI for six years, is taking over from Ashok Nambissan, who is retiring. With more than two decades of experience under his belt, Khosla offers expertise in mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, regulatory issues, and intellectual property protection. He will be responsible for legal matters, regulatory affairs, and corporate relations, reporting directly to Gaurav Banerjee, the managing director and CEO of SPNI.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m excited to step into my new role at SPNI, focusing on enhancing our compliance framework and legal structure in global markets. Additionally, I look forward to driving our Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. It’s an immense privilege to follow in the footsteps of Ashok Nambissan, building upon the solid foundation he has laid.
