Following her Olympic gold win, Jutta Leerdam is reportedly in talks with Nike for a sponsorship deal potentially worth over a million dollars. The attention around a moment after her race is believed to have sparked the company’s interest.
On February 9th, a Dutch speed skater won the women’s 1,000-meter race with a time of 1:12.31. While celebrating her victory on the ice, she briefly opened her racing suit, revealing a Nike sports bra she was wearing underneath.
The issue quickly gained attention, especially since FILA is the official sponsor of Olympic merchandise for the Netherlands.

Shortly after the race, Nike posted a picture of Leerdam on Instagram with the message: “When you’re this quick, you don’t need to ask for anyone’s approval.”

I read in AD that Frederique de Laat, who runs an agency called Branthlete that works with female athletes, thinks all this attention could actually lead to some serious money for them. Basically, she thinks it’s a big opportunity financially.
“With Nike, I suspect you’re looking at a figure of over a million,” she told the outlet.
Olympic athletes aren’t directly paid for participating, but their countries often give them bonuses for winning medals. For example, gold medalists from the Netherlands can reportedly receive around $35,000.
Jake Paul, Leerdam’s fiancé, was in the audience and appeared very moved by her performance. He shared his excitement on Instagram, posting, “I’M SO PROUD OF YOU,” and celebrating that she had just broken the Olympic world record.
He also shared a message saying he’d just seen one of the greatest moments in sports history. He added that he couldn’t put into words how proud he was, and that a doctor would provide more details.
