‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ Trailer Roars at CinemaCon: Scarlett Johansson Battles a Fire-Breathing Mutant T-Rex

Some things are better left extinct.

Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and Jonathan Bailey are set to uncover what’s in store for them in “Jurassic World Rebirth”. On Wednesday, during Universal’s presentation to theater owners at CinemaCon, a new trailer for the franchise reboot was premiered, showcasing the destructive dinosaur action that has made this series a financial powerhouse worth billions.

A thrilling chase ensues as someone attempts to swipe Quetzalcoatlus eggs, leading to an exhilarating airborne pursuit. Meanwhile, researchers and their armed escorts narrowly survive a Mosasaur attack that threatens to overturn their boat. A terrifying T-Rex like dinosaur, seemingly from the fires of hell, also makes an appearance. To soften the intense action, a cute baby Triceratops is introduced, but it soon becomes distressed due to the arrival of an even more ominous ancient monster that craves our heroes as its meal.

Johansson expressed her deep-seated admiration for the series during Universal’s presentation, stating, “Being in a ‘Jurassic’ film has been a lifelong ambition of mine… For the past 15 years, I’ve made it a point to let them know that I’m ready and waiting.” She then introduced the latest trailer moments before.

“She’s too expensive,” Gareth Edwards, the director, quipped.

This occasion, Johansson took no risks, instead contacting Steven Spielberg personally, who is both the original director of the movie and the patron of the series.

“I told him I’d play any role even if I’m eaten in the first five minutes,” Johansson said.

“Spoiler alert,” Edwards interjected.

Five years following the events of 2022’s “Jurassic World Dominion”, the story unfolds with dinosaurs battling to survive due to ecological shifts. A few specimens persist on an island that used to host the initial Jurassic Park research facility. As a character remarks in the trailer, “These are the worst ones left.

Regardless of the potential danger from velociraptors, a group of scientists ventures on a clandestine expedition aiming to retrieve dinosaur DNA for creating a lifesaving drug – or at least that’s what they claim! After all, audiences don’t flock to these films for the intricacies of science; they come for the thrill of witnessing T-Rex devour countless humans.

Edwards, known for his work on “Godzilla” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” directs this film with a script penned by David Koepp, the creator of 1993’s “Jurassic Park” and its 1997 sequel, “The Lost World.” Joining the cast are Rupert Friend, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Luna Blaise, David Iacono, and Ed Skrein.

“The movie titled ‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ is set to debut on July 2, 2025. At CinemaCon, Universal presented previews of ‘Wicked: For Good’, ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2’, and ‘M3GAN 2.0’ as well.”
