‘Jurassic World: Rebirth’ Gives Fans Of The Novels One Of Its Most Beloved Scenes

What’s this recently introduced dinosaur all about? It goes by the name Distortus Rex, or “D-Rex” for short, as per director Gareth Edwards. This creature is a six-limbed beast with an abundance of teeth. Edwards humorously compared it to the offspring of a T. rex designed by H.R. Giger and a Star Wars creature known as a Rancor. If that sounds terrifying, it’s supposed to be. As VFX supervisor David Vickery put it, “It’s like another animal has been wrapped around the T. rex.” This new take on dinosaurs seems to delve deeper into emotional complexity compared to previous attempts at reboots featuring Chris Pratt.

Apart from sounding challenging due to its intricate nature, it’s worth noting that earlier directors avoided depicting one of the most iconic and frightening scenes from the original work: a river raft chase involving a T. rex, which takes place underwater and stalks the raft occupants. Previously considered difficult to achieve on the big screen, the technology has finally advanced enough in 2025 to meet the author’s initial goals, making this spine-chilling and exhilarating sequence possible at last.
