‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ First Look: Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey Keep the Dinosaur Franchise Roaring

As a seasoned movie critic with over three decades of cinematic adventures under my belt, I must say the first look at “Jurassic World Rebirth” has piqued my interest like a velociraptor on the prowl! The star-studded cast and the intriguing plot twists have me eagerly anticipating this summer blockbuster.

The long-running Jurassic World series has unveiled its initial sneak peek for “Jurassic World Rebirth,” the seventh installment of this 31-year-old franchise, featuring Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali in lead roles. Gareth Edwards, known for directing “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” and “The Creator,” is at the helm, with David Koepp, who penned the original “Jurassic Park” from 1993, providing the script.

As per a formal synopsis, the upcoming movie is slated to unfold five years after the incidents of “Jurassic World Dominion.” In this timeframe, the earth’s environment appears largely unsuitable for dinosaurs.

“The survivors dwell in equatorial areas with climates similar to their original habitat, as described. The three largest beings inhabiting this tropical ecosystem are believed to contain the secret to a groundbreaking drug that could save countless human lives.”

In addition, the studio shared information about several characters in the movie. Johansson’s character is a skilled covert ops operative named Zora Bennett, tasked with heading a team to gather DNA samples from the three largest dinosaur species remaining. Ali takes on the role of Zora’s partner, Duncan Kincaid, while Bailey portrays Dr. Henry Loomis, a paleontologist. Rupert Friend, known for his work in “Homeland”, plays Martin Krebs, the drug corporation’s representative financing the expedition. The remaining team members include Philippine Velge (“Station Eleven”), Bechir Sylvain (“BMF”) and Ed Skrein (“Deadpool”).

In time, they stumble upon a civilian group who had their boat overturned by menacing water-dwelling dinosaurs. This incident leaves them marooned on an island, where they uncover a chilling secret that has remained concealed from humanity for many years.

In the new production, actor Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, known for his role in “The Lincoln Lawyer,” takes on the character of Reuben Delgado, the patriarch of a family stranded at sea. This family consists of Luna Blaise, recognized from “Manifest,” David Iacono, famed from “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” and Audrina Miranda, who has appeared in “Lopez vs. Lopez.”

Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley serve as the film’s producers, while Steven Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart, and Jim Spencer take on the roles of executive producers.

“Jurassic World Rebirth” is scheduled to open on July 2, 2025.
