7. Jurassic World Dominion

  • Release date: June 10, 2022
  • Director: Colin Trevorrow
  • Cast: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Laura Dern
  • Runtime: 2 hours 27 minutes

The Storyline: As dinosaurs take over the Earth, a biotech firm endangers worldwide food resources. Characters from past and present must band together to prevent this catastrophe.

In simpler words: The final installment of Jurassic World, titled Dominion, ended up being disappointing, especially considering the anticipation surrounding it. The series had been developing its story and characters nicely for quite some time, but this film fell short in multiple aspects. The plot was weak, the dialogue wasn’t great, and the length of the movie along with its pacing were problematic. As a result, it ended not with a powerful roar as one might expect, but more like a faint whimper.

6. Jurassic Park III

  • Release date: July 18, 2001
  • Director: Joe Johnston
  • Cast: Sam Neill, William H. Macy, Téa Leoni
  • Runtime: 1 hour 32 minutes

Overview: Dr. Alan Grant is deceptively drawn to Isla Sorna, only to discover himself back in a dinosaur sanctuary once more. Here, he encounters the awe-inspiring yet fearsome Spinosaurus up close.

Jurassic Park 3 didn’t do as well as its predecessors under Joe Johnston’s direction because it felt uninspired compared to Steven Spielberg’s work, and most characters lacked depth and excitement, making the audience wish they’d been eaten by dinosaurs instead.

5. Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom

  • Release date: June 22, 2018
  • Director: J.A. Bayona
  • Cast: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rafe Spall
  • Runtime: 2 hours 8 minutes

Saving Dinosaurs from the Imminent Volcano Eruption on Isla Nublar: A Mission with Unexpected Twists

In this scenario, we find ourselves on the brink of a catastrophe as Isla Nublar, home to various dinosaurs, faces an impending volcanic eruption. To save these magnificent creatures, a daring rescue operation is initiated. However, things are not always what they seem with this mission.

Fallen Kingdom has its flaws, but it also tries to depart from the traditional Jurassic Park storyline, which adds an intriguing twist to the film. It is both darker and more outlandish than previous installments, making it a unique blend of dinosaur action and a gothic-style monster movie set in a mansion.

In other words, while Fallen Kingdom may have some issues, its attempts to break away from the classic Jurassic Park storyline make it worth watching for both its dinosaur action scenes and its gothic horror elements.

4. Jurassic World

  • Release date: June 12, 2015
  • Director: Colin Trevorrow
  • Cast: Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, Vincent D’Onofrio
  • Runtime: 2 hours 4 minutes

Main Plot: A functional dinosaur theme park finds itself on the brink of chaos when a genetically engineered hybrid breaks free from confinement. With the monster wreaking havoc across the island, causing devastation in its path, a trainer and an operations manager are tasked with ensuring visitor safety and neutralizing the danger.

Jurassic World is a new version of the original movie, but with a twist: instead of dinosaurs attacking during a preview, they start killing people when the park is full of visitors. This means there are more potential victims. Chris Pratt makes the movie entertaining by being like both Steve Irwin and Indiana Jones, and because he’s popular, Jurassic World became the most successful film in the franchise financially.

3. Jurassic World Rebirth

  • Release date: July 2, 2025
  • Director: Gareth Edwards
  • Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, Jonathan Bailey
  • Runtime: 2 hours 14 minutes

Main Plot: A pharmaceutical firm enlists an elite group of mercenaries and researchers for a daring mission: collecting DNA samples from three gigantic dinosaurs roaming Earth. However, as in most Jurassic films, the operation doesn’t unfold smoothly.

Our Thought: The previous three Jurassic World movies often struggled with complex plots. However, this latest installment, Rebirth, simplifies things by focusing on a team with defined objectives and reasons for their actions, fighting against genetically modified dinosaurs. What truly distinguishes it is the introduction of hybrid mutant monsters, which leads to some of the most awe-inspiring action scenes in the entire franchise.

2. The Lost World: Jurassic Park

  • Release date: May 23, 1997
  • Director: Steven Spielberg
  • Cast: Jeff Goldblum, Julianne Moore, Vince Vaughn
  • Runtime: 2 hours 9 minutes

Key Topic: A research group visits an island inhabited by free-roaming dinosaurs, but their adversaries relocate these ancient beasts to the mainland, causing a T-Rex to wreak havoc in San Diego.

Our perspective: We believe Ian Malcolm is the standout character from the Jurassic series. Though it’s disappointing that he didn’t interact much with Alan Grant in The Lost World, it’s exciting to see him and Jeff Goldblum shine individually in an action-packed film. The movie offers a good mix of action and fright, with the San Diego sequence being particularly memorable.

1. Jurassic Park

  • Release date: June 11, 1993
  • Director: Steven Spielberg
  • Cast: Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum
  • Runtime: 2 hours 7 minutes

Topic Overview: Researchers receive an invitation to explore a distant island amusement park teeming with genetically replicated dinosaurs. However, when the safety mechanisms malfunction, these ancient beasts break free and cause chaos.

Our opinion: Among all films in the Jurassic Park series, Jurassic Park stands out as not only the best but also one of the greatest blockbusters ever made. The idea behind it was a dream come true, with Michael Crichton’s original novel exploring what might occur if dinosaurs could be resurrected. Steven Spielberg proved to be the ideal director for this project, skillfully creating action scenes that were both nerve-wracking and exhilarating at the same time.

Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum skillfully portrayed their roles as the squabbling scientists in this narrative, with Richard Attenborough delivering a flawless performance as a man whose dream soon becomes a terrifying reality. The film’s advanced computer-generated effects convincingly brought dinosaurs back to life on screen, making it seem as though these ancient beasts were once more wandering our planet.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’d recommend checking out where the Jurassic Park movie lands on my personal list of all-time favorites, and which of the World series entries find themselves on the not-so-impressive side, earning a spot among billion-dollar grossers that didn’t quite hit the mark.
