Junker Queen’s OP Perks Just Elevated Her to S Tier in Overwatch 2!

One Overwatch 2 tank that had been underperforming significantly since its release saw a significant improvement due to powerful new abilities (OP Perks), catapulting it from being relatively unknown straight up to the top tier (S tier).

In the game Overwatch 2, the role of the tank is a subject of debate, as many players find the 6v6 game mode more appealing than the 5v5 solo tank experience. However, there’s no denying that almost every tank has had their moment in the limelight, with only a few exceptions.

Regardless of the changes in balance and the frequent rearrangement of tiers throughout Overwatch 2, there has always been a moment when every tank character in the game was either an elite choice or an effective counter to others, with the exception of Junker Queen.

Despite excelling in early iterations of Overwatch 2 prior to its launch, Junker Queen has never emerged as a game-defining character, even when she’s been effective. Her limitations lie in her inability to protect her team’s backline while simultaneously offering less mobility and burst damage compared to standard dive tanks. This restricts her role to being a very specific, niche tank.

Yet, she boasts perhaps the top-tier Perks in the game, excluding certain overpowered Support Perks, which have catapulted her directly into S rank. But, only if you know how to employ them effectively.

Overwatch 2’s Perks finally made Junker Queen meta

In Overwatch 2, some characters receive suboptimal abilities (Perks) that make them weaker than other choices. For instance, the Junker Queen’s Perks seem to have overpowered her, making her less effective compared to other heroes in the game.

Without much prior knowledge of JQ, her list of Perks might not initially seem incredibly impressive. Unlike other characters who come equipped with numerous fresh abilities, each of JQ’s Perks primarily enhances her existing toolkit instead.

To fully grasp why she’s currently excelling, it’s essential to have a basic comprehension of her fundamental abilities, particularly the Wound mechanism. Her moves like Carnage, Jagged Throw, standard melee, and Rampage each exhibit distinct DPS (Damage Per Second) profiles for the bleed damage caused by the Wound:

  • Melee and Jagged Blade return damage: 5 damage per second
  • Jagged Blade impact: 10 damage per second
  • Carnage hits: 13.3333 damage per second
  • Rampage hits: 20 damage per second

Keep in mind that the Junker Queen recovers health equivalent to 225% of the harm she inflicts through Wound damage. Consequently, if you have enough targets bleeding, she becomes nearly invincible. This is extremely overpowered when combined with two of her abilities.

1v1-ing against Junker Queen will be extremely challenging due to her abilities, Rending Recall and Deep Wounds. These skills allow her to recover health from damage inflicted by most characters except Bastion. Even with Bastion, she can still hold her ground quite effectively.

So long as you keep striking a target with the knife you’ve pinned down, you’ll recover approximately 22.5 Health Points every second for about 8 seconds. However, this healing effect is nullified when using Carnage’s axe swing.

Moreover, using Deep Wounds will prolong the duration of your ultimate’s anti-healing effect. Typically, this allows for approximately five gunshots before the bleeding from her ultimate fades away. Consequently, it adds an additional 1 to 1.25 seconds to the duration on that specific target.

This duo of Rending Recall and Deep Wounds provides an exceptional Perk setup within the game. However, if you’re not fond of her bleed build or struggle with knife throws, Battle Shout and Savage Satiation are equally strong alternatives. It’s worth noting that JQ doesn’t possess any useless Perks.

In simpler terms, Battle Shout is straightforward – it’s like a yell that boosts itself. Savage Satiation, however, offers a lot of healing potential. The physical damage it inflicts is 105, which means if you hit an entire team, you would heal for 525. If JQ manages to hit multiple enemies, the cooldown on this ability decreases by 2 seconds each time, leading to massive healing when staying close to enemies.

For the initial time post Overwatch 2’s debut, Junker Queen now functions as a robust, self-reviving hero who carries games with her performance. If you consistently hit your skills, she simply won’t go down easily.

If you’re skilled with tank characters, Junker Queen could prove to be one of the top picks in Overwatch 2, despite being trickier to handle compared to other tanks.
