Julia Roberts Gets Scorched by #MeToo Scandal in Gripping CinemaCon Trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s ‘After the Hunt’

On Wednesday, the much awaited high-class drama titled “After the Hunt” aimed squarely at CinemaCon with a thrilling and complex sneak peek of the upcoming Julia Roberts and Luca Guadagnino project.

With awards buzz swirling around it, “After the Hunt” was presented with a sense of assurance and managed to captivate the audience of international cinema theater owners during their yearly gathering in Las Vegas.

In the story, Roberts plays a college professor who encounters a challenging predicament when one of her promising students (Ayo Edebiri) accuses one of her colleagues (Andrew Garfield). As she navigates this difficult situation, a hidden secret from her own past might surface and cause more complications.

Guadagnino highlighted what he considered Roberts’ finest career performance, with the video showcasing the Academy Award-winning actress in peak form as a shock-blonde, high-powered east coast academic. Her group of somewhat sycophantic peers (Michael Stuhlbarg, Chloe Sevigny) praise her intelligence, despite her reckless ex-lover Garfield constantly testing limits with his words and, ultimately, actions.

(Note: “slightly sycophantic” has been replaced with “somewhat sycophantic” for a more natural flow, but the meaning remains the same.)

She too boasts a rising protégée named Edebiri, who unexpectedly appears at her residence in disarray, accusing Garfield of overstepping a boundary. He persisted even after she said no, causing a scandal that challenges norms and standards, with significant repercussions for Roberts’ persona as her past actions start to catch up with her.

In a tense exchange, Edebiri expresses that they feel uneasy about continuing the discussion with Roberts.

“Not everything is supposed to make you comfortable,” Roberts seethes in return.

As a passionate cinephile, I couldn’t help but feel a surge of pride when addressing the esteemed exhibitors at our recent gathering. The treasure trove of cinematic delights I’m about to unveil promises to be a showstopper, and as we inch closer to awards season, I can foresee myself repeating this sentiment many times over.

Following the thrilling experience of “After the Hunt”, I had the pleasure of being involved with a production from Imagine and Frensey Film Company. This remarkable film was brought to life by producers Brian Grazer, Guadagnino, Jeb Brody, and Allan Mandelbaum. Karen Lunder, Justin Wilkes, Alice Dawson, and Nora Garrett served as executive producers for this project.
