Julia Garner Nears Deal to Play Caroline Ellison in FTX Series at Netflix, Higher Ground Producing

An upcoming series, yet unnamed, is set to delve into the intriguing tale of the well-known cryptocurrency exchange. The narrative will be told from the perspective of the romantic relationship between Caroline Ellison and Sam Bankman-Fried. Reports indicate that Garner is close to finalizing a deal to portray Ellison. It’s been revealed that Netflix has ordered eight episodes, intending to start filming during the summer season.

Reps for Netflix declined to comment.

In this endeavor, Graham Moore, known for his work on “The Imitation Game” and “The Outfit,” assumes roles as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner. Jacqueline Hoyt, recognized from “The Leftovers” and “The Good Wife,” is also on board as an executive producer and co-showrunner. The Obamas, through their Higher Ground banner, will serve as executive producers alongside Vinnie Malhotra. Scoop Wasserstein of Scoop Productions and Lauren Morelli are additionally named as executive producers. James Ponsoldt is set to direct the initial episode and executive produce as well.

Returning to Netflix, Garner will reprise her role in a new production. Previously, she was a key cast member in the critically acclaimed crime dramas “Ozark” and “Inventing Anna.” For her outstanding performance in “Ozark,” she received three Emmy nominations, winning thrice in the category of best supporting actress in a drama series. Additionally, she was recognized with an Emmy nomination for best actress in a limited series for “Inventing Anna.

Beyond her work on Netflix with shows like “The Get Down” and “Maniac,” and appearances in series such as “The Americans” and “Dirty John,” Garner is also set to appear in the upcoming Marvel movie, “Fantastic Four,” where she takes on the role of The Silver Surfer. Additionally, she is slated to star in the horror film “Weapons,” directed by Zach Cregger; both films are scheduled for release later in 2022.
