Judge Dredd Starring Stallone Hits Streaming on Peacock May 1

In a matter of days, an often overlooked comic book adaptation featuring Sylvester Stallone will find its fresh platform for viewing.

According to recent updates, the 1995 movie “Judge Dredd” featuring Sylvester Stallone as the main character is set to debut on the streaming platform, Peacock, starting from May 1.

As a die-hard fan of comics, I’ve been hooked on “Judge Dredd” since it first graced the pages of 2000 AD back in 1977. The 1995 movie version, directed by Danny Cannon and penned by William Wisher Jr. and Steven E. de Souza, was a faithful adaptation. Just like its comic counterpart, it paints a bleak future where most of the world has transformed into a lethal wasteland, leaving behind overpopulated Mega-Cities that are only loosely connected. To tackle the rampant violence in these harsh conditions, these cities rely on Judges – versatile officers who serve as police, jury, and executioner all rolled into one.

Sylvester Stallone Starred as Judge Dredd

In this movie, Armand Assante portrays Dredd’s genetic brother Rico, while Diane Lane assumes the role of Judge Hershey, Jürgen Prochnow plays Judge Griffin, Joana Miles is cast as Judge McGruder, Max von Sydow takes on the position of Chief Justice Fargo, and Joan Chen becomes Doctor Isla Hayden. The narrative centers around these main characters as they fight against the Angel Gang, a group of cannibals, confront corruption within their ranks, and work to clear Dredd’s name, thereby exposing a murderous conspiracy that reaches deep into the Judge Program.

Following its premiere, the movie “Judge Dredd” received generally mediocre reviews from critics, who often ranked it as one of Sylvester Stallone’s poorest action film productions. The film didn’t fare much better at the ticket counter, earning just $113.5 million worldwide compared to its production budget of approximately $90 million. Despite this unfavorable reception, the comic book series remained unaffected and fans continued to show their ardor for the franchise. A reboot of the live-action series was launched in 2012 under the title “Dredd” and garnered a significantly more positive response from both audiences and critics upon its release in theaters.

Judge Dredd will be available for streaming on Peacock beginning May 1.
