Season 3 of Animal Kingdom unveiled the reason behind Joshua “J” Cody’s decision to assassinate Morgan Wilson. This crime drama series airing on TNT chronicles the exploits of the Cody clan, a criminal family based in Oceanside, California, who engage in illicit activities and high-risk heists. Guided by their matriarch, Janine “Smurf” Cody, the Codys adhere to a strict set of rules that place family interests above all else. This unwavering loyalty often results in dire consequences for those who challenge their values. Poor Morgan was one such victim, and her demise served as a chilling illustration of “J” Cody’s merciless nature.
In the television series “Animal Kingdom,” a captivating lineup of stars was led by the enigmatic Cody family, featuring Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy, Ben Robson, and Daniella Alonso. Over six seasons, this drama unfolded on TNT, concluding with its final episode on August 28, 2022.
Who Is Morgan on Animal Kingdom?
In the world of Animal Kingdom, I stepped into the role of Morgan Wilson, Janine “Smurf” Cody’s steadfast and dependable legal representative. My introduction to this captivating story unfolded in Season 2, Episode 11, titled “The Leopard.” From there, I became a recurring character, deepening my involvement in the intricate tapestry of events that define Animal Kingdom.
Following the arrest and imprisonment of Smurf for suspected murder of his adopted son Baz (find out why Scott Speedman departed from Animal Kingdom), Morgan played a crucial role in managing Smurf’s legal issues and business affairs, helping to reduce her jail time. Apart from assisting Janine, Morgan also encountered “J” Cody during Season 2 and beyond.
In Season 2, the lawyer’s first appearance significantly impacted J’s storyline in Animal Kingdom, as Smurf granted him control over the family’s finances through power of attorney. This newfound authority provided J with an advantage, and he eventually understood that he could leverage it for his own gain. Unfortunately, their complex alliance culminated in a violent and fatal conclusion.
Why Did J Kill Morgan on Animal Kingdom?
In episode 12 of season 3 of “Animal Kingdom,” we got a glimpse into a less compassionate aspect of character J, as he demonstrated a cunning and relentless side that ultimately put Morgan in danger.
Recognizing that Smurf might be incarcerated for some time, J decided to take advantage of his power of attorney by illegally acquiring three of her properties with the intention of selling them to generate funds. However, as Smurf’s legal representative, Morgan discovered J’s questionable financial maneuvers, making him a potential risk. At first, J attempted to shift the blame onto Morgan, but his plan fell apart when he understood that his grandmother would eventually uncover the truth.
In an effort to eliminate a perceived obstacle in his quest for sole rule over the kingdom, J kidnapped the unfortunate lawyer and brought her out onto the open sea, where no one could hear her cries. As evil intentions took hold, he brutally murdered her by cutting her up, causing her to bleed profusely, and leaving her as a lure for sharks. In the end, Morgan met an untimely death by drowning.
Morgan’s demise stands out as one of the most impactful deaths in the TV series, ‘Animal Kingdom’, due to its role in transforming J into a ruthless and ambitious figure vying for control over the criminal empire once led by Smurf.
