Over the recent years, Josh Hartnett has experienced a captivating comeback in his acting career that’s been quite fascinating to observe. He’s graced our screens in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” and left us spellbound as a father-turned-serial-killer in M. Night Shyamalan’s “Trap”. Hartnett is eager to further develop his acting skills by taking on intriguing roles, and his latest project promises the same. This upcoming role will find him working alongside someone he previously collaborated with on “Black Mirror“.
By the given deadline, Hartnett will spearhead Netflix’s as-yet-unnamed limited series, which revolves around a sea monster causing panic in a Newfoundland town. In this role, Hartnett is slated to portray a fisherman, tasked not only with safeguarding his own family, but also the entire community from this enigmatic entity emerging from the depths of the ocean.
The series, entitled “The Series,” originates from Jesse McKeown. Additionally, Jason Hartnett is involved as an executive producer, along with Jessica Rhoades, a previous collaborator of his on the show “Black Mirror.” In this production, McKeown takes on the role of showrunner and also serves as an executive producer, alongside Hartnett, Rhoades, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton, and Sharon Hall. This series will be filmed in Newfoundland, Canada. The writing team includes Karen Walton, Perry Chafe, and Natty Zavitz. Meanwhile, Jamie Child, Helen Shaver, and Stephen Dunn are set to direct the show.
Josh Hartnett’s New Netflix Series Boasts a ‘Black Mirror’ Connection
Previously, it was noted that Hartnett and Rhodes collaborated on an episode of “Black Mirror” titled “Beyond the Sea.” This episode, penned by creator Charlie Brooker, is part of the sixth series of this anthology series. The story revolves around two space travelers in 1969 who found themselves inhabiting copies of their bodies on Earth. Hartnett played the role of David, while Aaron Paul from “Breaking Bad” portrayed Cliff in this episode.
Hartnett has always been comfortable with TV work. Kick-starting his career in LA, his first significant role was in the brief crime drama series called “Cracker”, which aired for just one season on ABC. After establishing himself in films, he later joined the cast of the Gothic horror series “Penny Dreadful” on Showtime, where it garnered a loyal fanbase over its three seasons and 27 episodes. Apart from featuring in an episode of “Black Mirror”, Hartnett also played Frank in season 3 of the widely-popular show “The Bear”.
More recently, the actor has been featured in the action-packed movie “Fight or Flight,” where Hartnett’s dedicated portrayal earned positive feedback from critics. Coming up next for him is the role in the anticipated psychological romance film “Verity.” This movie is adapted from Colleen Hoover’s novel and will star Anne Hathaway and Dakota Johnson alongside him. The release date of this production, brought to you by Amazon MGM Studios, is set for May 15, 2026.
