Showing her various movies, we landed on “Spaceballs,” whereupon she inquired about Part 2. I informed her there was none. To which she responded, “Yes, there is, he said so!” For Mel Brooks, within the movie, declares, “God willing, we’ll reunite in ‘Spaceballs 2: The Search For More Money.’ So she expected his word to be upheld. Alas, it was not fulfilled.

Following her query about the absence of a sequel, Gad disclosed that he was the one who conceived the entire movie concept. He mentioned that filming is slated to commence towards the end of September 2025. Before retiring for the night, Gad contacted Mel Brooks to pitch his idea. According to Gad, Brooks expressed excitement saying, “Josh, I’ve been anticipating this phone call for 35 years.” Although he couldn’t share specific plot details, Gad assured fans they would be thrilled with what he and Brooks are planning.

She inquired, “‘So why didn’t they act on it?’, to which I replied, ‘I can’t say for sure.’ Now, have you ever experienced something similar? One night, I fell asleep and, honestly, I swear by God, I dreamt up the entire movie we’re about to start filming in two weeks. So impulsively, I reached out to Mel Brooks – yes, just picked up the phone and called him. I shared my idea with him, and without his consent, I recorded our conversation. After pitching it to him, he said, ‘Josh, I’ve been waiting 35 years for this call.’ Thinking about it still brings tears to my eyes. Unfortunately, I can’t reveal anything about this movie, but if you’re a fan of ‘Spaceballs’, you’re going to be thrilled with ‘Spaceballs 2’!

Initially, Meyers acknowledged that Brooks openly declared he had no initial inclination towards a sequel, a fact known to Gad. Eventually, he conveyed his thanks for being given the opportunity to work on it while Brooks is still alive, as Brooks marked his 99th birthday in June 2025.
