Jonathan Roumie Drops Huge Hint About Transfiguration in The Chosen

In the Bible, the event known as the Transfiguration hasn’t been depicted yet. It’s not likely we’ll witness it in Season 5, but as suggested by actor Jonathan Roumie who plays Jesus, there’s a possibility it could be featured at a later time.

In the initial installment of The Chosen series, they clearly state that it is inspired by the authentic narratives found in the Gospels. Yet, it also underlines that it uses artistic license and creative freedom to reinforce and uphold the essence and purpose of the scriptural accounts.

The show portrays significant biblical incidents accurately; such as the feeding of the five thousand, Jesus walking on water, Lazarus being resurrected, and various miracles. However, its timeline varies from the Bible, as the series occasionally leaves out or rearranges events (for instance, Season 4 started with John the Baptist’s death, though his demise was detailed earlier in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark concerning Jesus’ ministry).

Personally speaking, as a gaming enthusiast, I’ve noticed that the series hasn’t yet incorporated the magical transformation (transfiguration) – but who knows? Maybe in future installments, we’ll get to witness this fascinating aspect of the franchise!

The transfiguration could happen in The Chosen spinoff

If you’re not familiar, the Transfiguration is a story found in the New Testament. In simple words, this event serves as a powerful proof that the person involved was indeed the Son of God, and also represents him as part of the Trinity, which consists of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

In Mark 9:2-13, three disciples (Peter, James, and John) are led to a mountain peak. “There,” it says, “Jesus’ appearance changed dramatically before them. His garments glowed brilliantly, whiter than any laundry could possibly make them.

Earlier, Dallas Jenkins stated that there are no current intentions to depict the Transfiguration in the series; however, as Roumie points out, Jenkins initially showed hesitation about incorporating Jesus walking on water, which ultimately became one of the series’ most impressive scenes.

During a conversation with TopMob prior to the launch of Season 5, Roumie stated, “Now, I believe we’re nearing the final leg of our journey, which means there aren’t many paths left for us to take, especially when considering conventional storytelling.

Certainly, the story includes both flashbacks and flashes forward. It’s been mentioned by Dallas that the transfiguration might not feature in this series. As for whether it could appear in a future spinoff, we’ll just have to wait and see.

It’s quite tantalizing, given that we’re aware Jenkins is working on multiple spinoffs – one of which is a series inspired by the Acts of the Apostles. Hypothetically, this could involve a flashback scene depicting Peter, James, and John witnessing the transfiguration. Do recall, they were instructed to maintain secrecy about it until after Jesus’ resurrection.

Jonathan Roumie wants to see the transfiguration in The Chosen

During the interview, Roumie expressed that he has been eagerly anticipating the transfiguration scene for quite some time… I believe the challenge was to create an emotional connection within the storyline and subplots that fit logically with the show’s narrative, given its current structure… I think that aspect was particularly difficult to achieve.

When Season 2 was being released, Roumie expressed his expectations for Season 3 to involve Jesus performing a miracle by walking on water to the media. He mentioned that he wasn’t certain if this would really occur due to the extraordinary and miraculous nature of the scene, as shared with TopMob.

What about that story’s unexpected turn catches your attention? The manner in which Dallas navigated was both breathtakingly stunning, beautifully poignant, and powerfully impactful.

He’s diligent about ensuring that the impact of the miracle, or the miracle itself, never dominates or derails the main plotline of the story.
