Jon Stewart Ends Live ‘Daily Show’ With Emotional Plea for Hope as Kamala Harris Trails: ‘This Is Not the End … We Have to Continue to Fight’

As someone who has spent decades observing and commenting on politics, I can confidently say that Jon Stewart’s words during his “Daily Show” election special resonate deeply with me. It’s been a rollercoaster ride, to say the least, and the uncertainty surrounding this election is palpable. However, we must remember that no matter who wins, the real work begins tomorrow.

Jon Stewart wrapped up the live “The Daily Show” election broadcast on Tuesday evening, expressing a heartfelt plea to viewers, as the election results for the presidency kept streaming in.

In essence, what’s clear is that there’s much we don’t know yet about the outcome of this election. We may make bold statements about the nature of our country and the world, but the reality is, we won’t truly understand anything until after the event. After all, the election results won’t mark the end of civilization as we know it; instead, we’ll wake up the next day needing to put in hard work to shape the world into the place we want it to be.

Later on the late-night program, they showed various video snippets that highlighted the fact that certain expectations about what America would transform into after an election didn’t necessarily come true. For instance, the idea that America might become a post-racial society following Barack Obama’s election in 2008 was not fully realized.

“Yeah, that lasted a day!” Stewart quipped.

The program subsequently aired clips of various journalists predicting that Trump would become an outcast from Washington, D.C., following the January 6th, 2021 uprising, and they emphasized that he would never be permitted to return to the Capitol under any circumstances.

“Ever,” Stewart said after the news clips. “My point is, fuck!”

Currently, Donald Trump is ahead in the presidential contest versus Vice President Kamala Harris, as reported by The Associated Press. On Tuesday evening, it was announced that Trump had secured victory in North Carolina – marking the first of seven crucial swing states.

Harris’ campaign remains optimistic that she will emerge victorious in the “blue wall” states – Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan – once all the votes are tallied, securing her the win. However, in counties where the votes have already been counted, her lead is smaller than Joe Biden’s four years ago.

Stewart declared on “The Daily Show,” “However, this isn’t over! I guarantee you, this isn’t over. We need to regroup, keep fighting, and persist in our efforts day after day to build the better society, world, and nation that we envision is achievable for future generations.
