Tom Holland has Jon Bernthal to thank for helping him land the role of Spider-Man.
During a recent appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, Bernthal revealed that while they were both working together on the film “Pilgrimage” directed by Brendan Muldowney, they mutually helped each other with audition tapes for their respective roles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Specifically, Holland aided Bernthal in securing the role of The Punisher in the 2017 series, while Bernthal supported Holland in getting the part of Spider-Man in “Captain America: Civil War”.
Bernthal mentioned that they completed the pilgrimage around seven or eight years back. That was when Tom recorded his audition for ‘Spider-Man’ and Bernthal did his for ‘The Punisher’. Interestingly, they helped each other in making their respective audition tapes for this movie.
As a diehard fan, I can tell you that when Holland came up against tough competition for the role of Spider-Man, I truly believed he had it in the bag. I’d often find myself murmuring “I am Spider-Man” during my audition preparations, filled with confidence that this role was meant for me.
Bernthal commented, ‘It seemed like many might aspire to be Spider-Man,’ he said. ‘You’re incredibly skilled, but the chances are slim, yet still, let’s give it a shot.’ His conviction was palpable, and as you come to know him and witness his dedication, it becomes clear why he is the successful actor he is.
He playfully implied that he deserves some recognition for the fact that Holland turned into Spider-Man, referring to a message asking for action sequences in the footage.
In simpler terms, Bernthal said, “I handed him the script that read, ‘Tom, consider scaling that wall, perform a double backflip, then begin the sequence.’ To which he replied, ‘You really want me to do that? Isn’t it a bit too daring?’
He added, “I thought, ‘None of the others could pull this off,’ and indeed, he managed it. I’m not claiming credit for his actions, but you see, it was sort of impressive.
