‘Joker: Folie à Deux’ Cinematographer Lawrence Sher to Keynote SMPTE Media Technology Summit

As a cinephile and someone who has been following Lawrence Sher’s career with great interest, I am absolutely thrilled about his upcoming keynote address at the SMPTE Media Technology Summit! With over three decades of experience as a cinematographer on more than 35 feature films, Sher is undoubtedly a creative powerhouse. His work on movies like “Joker,” the “Hangover” trilogy, “Garden State,” and “Due Date” have left an indelible mark on cinema, and I can’t wait to learn more about his process and technology choices.

The cinematographer of both “Joker” and “Joker: Folie à Deux”, named Lawrence Sher, is scheduled to give a keynote speech at the upcoming SMPTE Media Technology Summit, which will occur in October in Hollywood.

Sher has been a cinematographer on over thirty-five full-length movies, and he is the creator and head of ShotDeck, a popular digital photo archive frequently consulted by professionals within the industry.

Carolyn Giardina, a seasoned editor specializing in entertainment technology and crafts at EbMaster and the EbMaster Intelligence Platform (VIP+), will lead the discussion with Sher.

Marc Zorn, leading content protection and production security at Marvel Studios and joint chair of the Media Technology Summit, has announced that the upcoming session will provide participants with the opportunity to gain insights from a seasoned cinematographer and successful entrepreneur.

“Zorn stated that Lawrence is the driving creative mind behind many movies I adore. I’m eagerly anticipating learning about his creative methods and the technical decisions he makes during film production,” says Zorn.

In 2019, Sher was nominated for an Oscar and BAFTA for his work on “Joker.” His other movies are the “Hangover” series, “Garden State” from 2004, and “Due Date” in 2010. He also directed the 2017 comedy “Father Figures,” as well as some episodes of the Peacock comedy show “Rutherford Falls.” In an attempt to make it simpler for filmmakers and educators to locate reference material, Sher introduced ShotDeck in 2021.

The international SMPTE Media Technology Summit is scheduled for October 21st through the 24th at Ovation Hollywood. This yearly event serves as a platform for prominent figures across various industries to exchange their research results and propose solutions to common challenges. Moreover, it includes peer-reviewed technical workshops.
