Joker Director Has Funny Response To Deadpool And Wolverine's Massive Success

As a gamer with an extensive background in comic book movies, I must say that the reign of Joker as the king of R-rated films has come to an end, and it’s quite bittersweet. Having grown up watching Joaquin Phoenix’s iconic portrayal of the Clown Prince of Crime, it’s hard not to feel a twinge of nostalgia as I watch Deadpool & Wolverine break records left and right.

For the very first time after its debut on July 26th, Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t secure the top spot at the box office last weekend. Instead, it slid down to position 2, earning $29 million, pushing its domestic total to an impressive $545.8 million. When considering global earnings, Deadpool & Wolverine have now surpassed the record for an R-rated film with a staggering $1.08 billion. The previous title holder was Todd Phillips’ 2019 Joker movie. In response to this milestone, Phillips posted on Instagram, acknowledging the change and adding a witty joke about it.

I must take my hat off to Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy for this incredible rollercoaster of a film. I had high expectations, but it’s exceeded them all! Kudos to the entire team behind this masterpiece!

Phillips too shared an image of Deadpool grooving on the same staircase used in The Joker, subtly referencing the iconic dance scene from the movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. Despite The Joker’s record being broken, Phillips could potentially recreate such success when Joker: Folie à Deux premieres in theaters just under two months from now.

In this upcoming film, Phoenix will once again portray Arthur Fleck/Joker, and Lady Gaga will be joining the cast as Harley Quinn. This movie is anticipated to delve into the romantic relationship between the Joker and Harley Quinn, while incorporating some musical segments. However, it’s uncertain if fans will react similarly to the first Joker sequel. We’ll have to see what happens when the film releases on October 2.
