jojopyun set to make LoL history as Europe’s first NA import player

As a long-time League of Legends enthusiast with a soft spot for talented mid laners, this news about jojopyun joining MAD Lions KOI has me absolutely thrilled! I can still vividly remember his impressive performances during Cloud9’s 2024 season, despite the team’s disappointing results.

It seems almost certain that North America’s renowned mid laner, who’s been playfully hinted by jojopyun to cause a stir in Europe, and following reports of MAD Lions KOI signing him, will make history as the first NA native to compete in the European League of Legends.

It turns out that in another timeline, Jojopyun participated in a competition in South Korea last year. In fact, they had several opportunities for both this year and the previous one as well.

In the year 2024, he joined Cloud9, a move that later proved to be regrettable since the team missed out on every international event throughout the year. However, Jojo’s lack of success in 2024 didn’t make his off-season preparations for 2025 any less busy or challenging.

Ibai asserted that he extended an invitation to the player, and certain individuals from KOI even implored jojopyun to visit Europe. Provided he’s not simply stirring up controversy on Twitter for fun, jojo is planning to travel to Europe.

It’s possible that another team secured his services instead of MAD, as he hasn’t confirmed which team he’ll join, but based on off-season roster reports and information disclosed by the team’s owners, he seems almost certain to play for the Spanish team.

During an interview with TopMob at Worlds 2024, Caps expressed a desire for additional domestic competition, yet mentioned he wasn’t keen on competing in the LPL (China) or LCK (Korea). It looks like his wish could soon come true.

It’s important to mention that although jojopyun is not the very first North American gamer to compete in Europe, he is the initial one who was specifically brought in as a starter.

In 2015, the North American coach, Inero, had his sole professional game in Europe, joining MOUZ’s EU Challengers squad as a substitute. Notably, this will mark the initial occasion for a North American player to compete for a European team.
