As a seasoned gamer and follower of the live streaming community, I must say I’ve seen my fair share of controversial characters, but Johnny Somali takes the cake. This guy seems to have a knack for causing trouble wherever he goes, from Japan to Israel, and now South Korea. It’s like he’s on some global tour of cultural insensitivity!
Streamer Johnny Somali, who hails from Somalia, is facing charges for two instances of assault and drug-related offenses while residing in South Korea. In fact, his controversial actions have become a topic of discussion in South Korea’s parliament.
John Somali, a well-known live streamer, has gained notoriety for his controversial actions overseas. These include making racially charged comments towards fellow travelers on trains in Japan and verbally abusing female police officers in Israel.
Despite facing physical attacks and being arrested as a result of his actions, he persists in causing trouble in South Korea.
2024 saw a stir among locals when Somali was found kissing the Statue of Peace in September, a well-known memorial dedicated to South Koreans who suffered sexual enslavement at the hands of Japanese soldiers during World War II.
Beyond this incident, he apparently created a disturbance in a convenience store, knocking over a cup of instant ramen on a table. The police even removed him from a train after he played loud and unsuitable sounds during a live stream, and locals have expressed their desire for him to leave by directly challenging him during his broadcasts.
Based on news reports coming from South Korea, it appears that the streamer, identified as Somali, is currently dealing with criminal accusations stemming from his actions. Specifically, he has been indicted for two offenses – assault and drug-related activities.
The authorities have announced their intention to examine the relevant grievances. Additionally, it’s been confirmed that he hasn’t traveled overseas, contrary to speculations suggesting he might have departed following his Instagram post at Incheon International Airport.
Additionally, during a meeting of South Korea’s parliament on October 30, a representative raised the issue involving Johnny Somali and the Statue of Peace, expressing the desire for appropriate legal actions to be imposed on the streamer due to his inappropriate behavior.
To this request, the chairman reportedly answered: “We are monitoring (Johnny Somali).”
In the House, a question was posed on the 10th of the month. The news about Johnny Somali had spread and parliament members were questioning the chairperson of the committee handling family issues. Evading clear answers, the chairperson responded that they are “monitoring” Johnny Somali when asked for an immediate legislative action to address the issue. The hashtag #johnnysomali was trending in relation to this Korean National Assembly level problem.

Somali admitted to the accusations against him during a live broadcast on October 29, which was titled “Chase Me If You Can: Korean Jobless Youth.” In this context, ‘jobless youth’ refers to individuals who are neither employed, studying, nor seeking work.
He cautioned those Koreans intending to take action against him, stating, “I’ll take legal action against you, and I’ll sue you as well, if you proceed.” Upon learning that others were seeking him out.
In this instance, this is the most recent occurrence in a series of events linked to the content creator, who has responded to criticism leveled against him by expats residing overseas.
Currently, there’s no new information available about the allegations against Somali, who was barred from using Kick due to his actions.
