Johnny Knoxville Confirms He Won’t Be Taking Hits to the Head in ‘Jackass 5’

Johnny Knoxville is back for another round of daring physical stunts in the upcoming Jackass 5. While the new movie promises the same chaotic energy fans love, Knoxville has hinted at some changes. He assures viewers that the classic Jackass antics will still be present, though perhaps in a slightly different form.

Johnny Knoxville recently discussed the upcoming stunts in Jackass 5 on the Books That Changed My Life podcast. As one of the original creators of the MTV show, Knoxville is known for pushing the boundaries of physical endurance with incredibly daring and often shocking stunts. However, he explained that things shifted with Jackass Forever.

The newest Jackass movie included a particularly risky stunt performed by Johnny Knoxville. While the team has a large crew to help with the most elaborate setups, the climax of the film involved Knoxville being hit by a bull. Although the stunt was successful, he suffered several injuries: a broken rib, a broken wrist, a concussion, and a brain injury. Everyone feared the damage, especially after he landed on his head, could be permanent.

Knoxville is returning, but he recognizes the need for adjustments. He explained on the podcast that he’s no longer able to risk serious injuries while performing stunts.

I absolutely cannot risk another concussion. I’ve already had too many, and I’m at my limit. More than anything, I need to avoid any impact to my head.

Despite the risks, he points out that many others are capable of doing similar stunts. He also says the Jackass films, while dangerous for the performers, are genuinely enjoyable for him to watch, and importantly, the cast themselves are having a good time. He’s really pleased about that.

Who’s Returning in ‘Jackass 5’?

The original Jackass team is coming back to the big screen in June 2026, thanks to Paramount Pictures. Johnny Knoxville will be joined by familiar faces like Aaron “Danger” McGhehey, Steve-O, and Jason “Wee Man” Acuña. Cast members from the previous film, Jackass Forever, may also be part of the new movie.

After the release of Jackass Forever, many fans wondered if Bam Margera would be back for future installments. He only appeared very briefly in the film due to a long-standing and well-publicized conflict with the other cast members, a feud that had worsened over the years.

Despite past issues, a compromise has been reached for Jackass 5 regarding Bam Margera. He will appear in the film using previously recorded footage, though he won’t be performing any new stunts or filming with the rest of the crew. The movie will include clips from when he was still an active member of the Jackass team.
