Johnny Depp to Receive Career Honor at Rome Film Festival, Where ‘Modì’ Will Launch in Italy

As an ardent admirer of the enigmatic world of cinema and its resilient artists, I find myself deeply moved by the impending honor bestowed upon Johnny Depp at the Rome Film Festival. The biopic “Modì,” a testament to the life and times of the iconic Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani, promises to be a captivating exploration of an era long past, brought vividly to life by none other than Riccardo Scamarcio as our titular protagonist.

Johnny Depp is set to receive a career honor at the Rome Film Festival, marking the Italian premiere of “Modì” – his film portrayal of the life of Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani. After its debut at San Sebastian, this will be the next stop for the movie in Italy.

Titled “Modì,” this film features Riccardo Scamarcio as a rebellious artist renowned for his revolutionary portraits and nudes in the modern style. The movie will have its premiere in Rome’s non-competitive Grand Public section before it is distributed in Italy by Be Water, collaborating with Maestro Distribution and Medusa Film.

In addition to Scamarcio, the movie boasts an impressive lineup that includes Al Pacino portraying art collector Maurice Gangnat from abroad, Antonia Desplat, Stephen Graham known for “The Irishman”, Bruno Gouery recognized in “The White Lotus”, Ryan McParland of “Halo” series, and Sally Phillips famous for the “Bridget Jones” movie series.

The movie titled “Modì” unfolds in the backdrop of Paris during World War I, spanning across 72 dramatic hours that mark a pivotal moment in the protagonist’s life, eventually cementing his status as a legendary artist.

The movie is created jointly by Barry Navidi Prods. and IN.2 Films, under the leadership of Andrea Iervolino who heads the Ilbe Group as its CEO.

In “Modì,” Johnny Depp makes his directorial comeback following his 1997 debut with the film “The Brave,” which received critical backlash. This project is among Depp’s first since his high-profile 2022 court case against ex-wife Amber Heard, where he sued her for defamation over allegations of domestic abuse. Although he emerged victorious in the lawsuit, the associated controversy has affected his professional life. Last year at Cannes, Depp made a festival return with a leading role in Maïwenn’s “Jeanne du Barry.

The 19th edition of the Rome Film Festival will run Oct. 16-27.
