Production for the movie titled “Day Drinker” has commenced, and Lionsgate unveiled an initial sneak peek featuring Johnny Depp, marking his comeback to Tinseltown after a series of prominent legal disputes with his former spouse, Amber Heard.
In the movie directed by Marc Webb, who previously worked with Depp and Penélope Cruz on “Blow”, “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” and “Murder on the Orient Express”, Depp and Cruz team up for a fourth time. Madelyn Cline is also part of the cast in this film, along with Manu Ríos, Arón Piper, Juan Diego Botto, and Anika Boyle.
The tale “Day Drinker” revolves around a yacht mixologist named Cline, who crosses paths with an enigmatic passenger, Depp, on his vessel. As their interaction deepens, they unwittingly become embroiled in the world of crime through their encounter with a shady character, Cruz. The connections between them turn out to be far more complex than anyone could have anticipated.
The movie, set to start filming in Spain, is being produced by Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee from Thunder Road, known for producing the “John Wick” series for Lionsgate; Adam Kolbrenner, who has worked on films like “The Tomorrow War,” “Free Guy,” and “Prisoners”; and Zach Dean, the scriptwriter of this project. Notably, Kolbrenner and Dean’s previous film, “The Gorge,” was recently distributed by Apple TV+ in partnership with Skydance.
30West serves as the executive producer for “Day Drinker,” which Lionsgate will showcase in collaboration with 30West. This movie is a production of Thunder Road and IN.2.
The movie’s main producers are Dan Friedkin, Micah Green, Daniel Steinman, Stephen Deuters, Jason Forman, Sam Sarkar, Webb (presumably a surname), Eric Sherman, Sarah Hong, Scott LaStaiti, Christopher Woodrow, Connor DiGregorio, and Adrián Guerra.
Webb expressed his enthusiasm about commencing the shoot alongside Johnny, Madelyn, Penelope, and an exceptional group of actors,” he said. “We’re working in a stunning setting with an outstanding team and a gripping, fierce tale to share. I can’t wait for this to be enjoyable.
Webb’s film crew comprises Director of Photography Javier Aguirresarobe, Production Designer Jan Roelfs, Editor Doc Crotzer, Costume Designer Penny Rose, and Casting Directors Hannah Ashby Ward and Alejandro Gil.
Chelsea Kujawa serves as the project supervisor at Lionsgate. The contract negotiations for Ríos, Piper, Botto, and Boyle were handled by Dan Freedman on behalf of the studio.
The movie signifies the latest partnership between Lionsgate and 30WEST, with both parties working together again on “Power Ballad,” a film directed by John Carney, co-written by Carney and Peter McDonald, featuring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas in leading roles.
