As a fan who’s spent countless hours engrossed in crime dramas and documentaries, I can’t help but feel a chill of anticipation run down my spine at the lineup for “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy.” Gabriel Luna, James Badge Dale, Michael Angarano, Chris Sullivan, and Marin Ireland are five powerhouse actors who have proven their mettle in various genres. Their portrayals of Detective Rafael Tovar, Chief of Detectives Joe Kozenczak, Sam Amirante, Lead Prosecutor Bill Kunkle, and Elizabeth Piest promise to breathe new life into the chilling tale of one of history’s most infamous serial killers.
Five new main cast members have been added for the forthcoming Peacock miniseries titled “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy.”
Actors Gabriel Luna (known for “The Last of Us” and “Terminator: Dark Fate”), James Badge Dale (“Savant” and “1923”), Michael Angarano (“Oppenheimer” and “This Is Us”), Chris Sullivan (“This Is Us” and “Mercy”), and Marin Ireland are joining the cast for the series. They will share screen time with Michael Chernus, who has been cast as Gacy.
The program is modeled after the Peacock docuseries “John Wayne Gacy: A Hidden Monster,” which was crafted by NBC News Studios and aired in 2021. Known for his heinous crimes, Gacy brutally took the lives of 33 young men from 1972 to his arrest in 1978.
As a devoted fan, I delve into the intricate unraveling of John Wayne Gacy’s life in this captivating series. It masterfully intertwines poignant tales of his predominantly gay victims, providing a profound exploration of the sorrow, remorse, and lasting trauma experienced by their loved ones. Moreover, it fearlessly exposes the systemic flaws, overlooked chances, and deep-rooted prejudices that perpetuated his reign of horror.
Luna takes on the role of Detective Rafael Tovar, and Dale is cast as Chief of Detectives Joe Kozenczak. Meanwhile, Angarano steps into Sam Amirante’s character, and Sullivan portrays Bill Kunkle, the Lead Prosecutor. Lastly, Ireland acts as Elizabeth Piest in this production.
1. Luna is represented by United Talent Agency (UTA), Entertainment 360, Ziffren Brittenham LLP, Shelter PR; Dale has CAA, MJ Management, Jackoway Austen Tyerman and others as his representatives; Angarano is with Anonymous Content, UTA, and Jackoway Austen Tyerman; Sullivan is represented by Gersh, Suskin/Karshan, and Hansen Jacobsen; Ireland’s representation includes Untitled and Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
Patrick Macmanus functions as both writer and showrunner for the series “Devil in Disguise”, under his own production company, Littleton Road Productions. The team is rounded out by Ashley Michel Hoban and Ahmadu Garba in executive roles. Ultimately, UCP will handle the production.
