John Rambo Prequel Is Official, And The Director Alone Is Enough For Me To Know This Will Be Incredible

More than ten years after Sylvester Stallone suggested Ryan Gosling play a younger John Rambo, a prequel movie is finally happening. The project was first discussed in August, and now it’s officially confirmed with a talented team and a director I have complete faith in.

As a huge fan of the Rambo films, I’m really excited to share what’s been confirmed about a potential new chapter. It looks like we might be on the verge of a whole new era for the character, and here’s a rundown of what we know so far.

John Rambo Will Be Played By Noah Centineo

It’s confirmed: Noah Centineo, known for his roles on Netflix, will be playing John Rambo. Despite actors sometimes leaving projects before they’re announced, Centineo is now in the final stages of negotiating the deal to portray the iconic soldier.

I really think The Recruit is the best hint of what this actor is going to bring to his next big role – a role that probably won’t hit screens until well after all the 2026 blockbusters are old news. I was so excited to hear he’s playing Ken in the new Street Fighter movie, though! It feels like a natural step for him, moving him further into action and away from the romantic comedies like To All The Boys that he’s known for.

John Rambo Will Be Directed By Sisu Helmer Jalmari Helander

If you haven’t seen the 2023 action film Sisu yet, you need to fix that right away! It’s a fantastic movie that fully delivers on the action genre, and the good news is the sequel looks even more amazing. Watch the trailer below!

I’m a huge fan of director Jalmari Helander – I’d drop everything to watch even a toilet paper commercial he made. So, the news that he’s directing a Rambo movie has me incredibly excited! I’m trying to contain myself, because I might actually hurt myself jumping for joy. I think I’ll just stay put and happily vibrate with excitement instead.

The Russo Brothers’ AGBO Is Now On Board

Anthony and Joe Russo, the directors behind massive hits like the Avengers movies, are now involved with a new John Rambo film. While they won’t be directing this one, it’s exciting to see their influence on the project. There’s also a possibility that actors from the Marvel Cinematic Universe will appear in this Rambo prequel.

AGBO is teaming up with Lionsgate, who just obtained the rights to the movie series, and Millennium Media for the next film.

Rory Haines And Sohrab Noshirvani Are Writing The Screenplay

Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani, the writers behind the popular British drama Informer, have also worked on feature films like the 2021 legal thriller The Mauritanian and the superhero film Black Adam. They previously wrote an action thriller called Fairytale in New York, which was intended to be directed by Jalmari Helander and star Ke Huy Quan, but it appears those plans have been put on hold in favor of a new Rambo project.

While there isn’t a confirmed release date yet, filming for the next John Rambo movie is scheduled to start in January 2026.
