John Lennon and Yoko Ono Documentary ‘One to One’ Lands Sweeping European Distribution Deal With Piece of Magic (EXCLUSIVE)

Magic Entertainment Group has obtained the theater rights from Mercury Studios for “One to One: John & Yoko” in a wide range of European countries such as France, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Iceland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

The documentary by Academy Award-winning director Kevin Macdonald (“The Last King of Scotland,” “Marley”) that had its world debut at Venice and was also screened at Sundance, provides a personal glimpse into 18 months of Lennon and Ono’s life in Greenwich Village during the early ’70s.

The core of it is freshly reconditioned clips from John Lennon’s sole post-Beatles extended concert – the “One to One” charity event at Madison Square Garden in August 1972. This movie includes audio that has been improved, with supervision by Sean Ono Lennon, their son.

The movie recreates the couple’s apartment in Greenwich Village to depict their American journey, using television footage from various eras as part of the narrative. This includes news broadcasts about the Vietnam War, game shows like “The Price is Right,” and Walter Cronkite’s news reports. The film follows how their protest methods developed during this time, culminating in the “One to One” concert, which was influenced by a Geraldo Rivera TV special investigation.

For EbMaster, critic Owen Gleiberman labeled the movie as an exceptional rock documentary that should not be missed.

Caspar Nadaud, CEO and founder of Piece of Magic Entertainment, expressed his deep appreciation for Kevin Macdonald’s remarkable storytelling. This narrative offers a profound insight into America during that era, yet it echoes strikingly with our contemporary world. As a devoted fan of John Lennon, he considers it a precious gift to gain such a vivid and personal portrayal of this iconic duo. The restored concert, now featuring superior sound quality, promises an unparalleled once-in-a-lifetime experience. Nadaud firmly believes that this exceptional encounter merits a grand presentation on the big screen and is delighted to collaborate with Mercury Studios to bring this opportunity to European viewers.

Will White, senior VP content sales at Mercury Studios, expressed his joy that Piece of Magic is spreading the movie throughout Europe. He believes they have a deep grasp of music films and this move strengthens an already strong bond we’ve had since our joint release of ‘Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool’ in 2018.

In this project, produced by Plan B/KM Films & Mercury Studios, Brad Pitt serves as an executive producer alongside Sean Ono Lennon. The post of editor and co-director is filled by Sam Rice-Edwards. For the North American distribution rights, Magnolia Pictures has chosen this film.
