Christopher Nolan‘s forthcoming movie based on “The Odyssey” certainly isn’t a modest undertaking. Despite boasting a massive Hollywood cast, John Leguizamo suggests that the production maintains an intimate, independent feel due to Nolan’s hands-on approach and disregard for studio interference. (Leguizamo made these comments in a recent interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”)
“He’s like an indie filmmaker but with crazy money,” he added.
In “The Odyssey,” Matt Damon plays the role of Odysseus alongside an ensemble cast that features Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Robert Pattinson, Benny Safdie, and Jon Bernthal.
The movie is a globetrotting, groundbreaking action masterpiece filmed with cutting-edge IMAX camera technology. For the very first time, Homer’s timeless story is being presented on IMAX screens, as announced by Universal.
Nolan’s body of work consists mainly of grand, high-grossing films such as “Oppenheimer,” “Interstellar,” and “Inception.” In an interview with Time in 2024, he stated, “I am attracted to large-scale projects because I understand how tenuous the chance to gather those resources can be. There are countless filmmakers worldwide who would gladly sacrifice an eye tooth for the resources I assemble, and I feel it’s my duty to employ them in a meaningful and engaging manner.
In a recent interview, the filmmaker mentions having a preference for independent films, specifically highlighting “Aftersun” and “Past Lives” as some contemporary productions he has found particularly enjoyable.
Actor Cillian Murphy, star of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie “Oppenheimer,” has praised the director in the past for his collaborative approach with actors and his encouragement of creativity and experimentation during filmmaking.
He has a deep appreciation for actors, consistently grasps their abilities, is passionately invested in them, and firmly trusts their potential to enrich both the story and characters. Often, we simply uncover what’s needed; during filming, we’re not just capturing scenes, but discovering them. He encourages us to test and delve into various possibilities,” Murphy explained to Collider.
On July 17, 2026, ‘The Odyssey’ will hit the big screens. Christopher Nolan has written the script, and together with Emma Thomas, he is producing this movie.
