John Cena Signs On For Mattel's Matchbox Movie

As a seasoned gamer and long-time wrestling enthusiast, I must say, it’s quite amusing to see our favorite WWE stars venturing into the world of cinema beyond their usual roles. John Cena, the man who once graced Barbie as a merman Ken, is now set to star in a Matchbox movie!

Following his appearance as a merman version of Ken in the Barbie film, former WWE wrestler-turned-actor John Cena has lined up another Mattel project for himself, and this time he’ll have the opportunity to use his legs. Cena will take on a role in a movie based on Mattel’s Matchbox series of toy cars.

For quite some time now, Hollywood has been working on a Hot Wheels movie, but it seems that Matchbox might cross the finish line ahead of them. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Hargrave, who directed Extraction, is set to lead the project as its director.

As an enthusiast, I’m thrilled about the upcoming movie featuring miniature cars, but I must admit, I’m curious about how they plan to pull it off. It’s a challenge that screenwriters David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper will need to tackle head-on. With his impressive resume, including roles in F9 and Fast X from the Fast and Furious franchise, Cena is sure to bring his A-game to this unique project.

John Cena’s on-screen adversary, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, disclosed his role in the film based on monster trucks, Monster Jam, at Disney’s D23. It’ll be intriguing to find out which movie premieres first: Matchbox or Monster Jam. For now, Cena has declared that he plans to step away from wrestling by the end of 2025, following one final stint with the WWE.
