As an ardent fan of competitive eating, I must say that witnessing Joey Chestnut’s triumph over Takeru Kobayashi in the hot dog-eating contest was nothing short of exhilarating! The sheer determination and skill these two giants of the sport displayed was awe-inspiring.
On Monday, Joey Chestnut outperformed Takeru Kobayashi in the hot dog-devouring competition hosted by Netflix in Las Vegas, Nevada.
On Labor Day, two renowned competitive eaters, Chestnut and Kobayashi, squared off in a 10-minute hot dog-eating contest. In this competition, Chestnut devoured an impressive 83 hot dogs with buns, surpassing his own world record of 76 that he set in 2021. On the other hand, Kobayashi managed to consume 66 hot dogs.
The much-anticipated showdown between Chestnut and Kobayashi, titled “Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Beef Unfinished,” was streamed live on Netflix. This exciting event took place inside the Hyper X Arena located at the Luxor in Las Vegas. The event was skillfully hosted by actor Rob Riggle and former WWE star Nikki Garcia.
In summary, the contest guidelines specified that Chestnut and Kobayashi were prohibited from performing slam dunks or splashing water on their hot dogs and buns, they were not allowed to detach the hot dogs from the buns, and they had 30 seconds to swallow whatever was remaining in their mouths after the 10-minute timer expired.
Chestnut bagged a prize of $100,000 in the contest, and was later honored with a unique WWE title belt, handed over by renowned wrestler, Rey Mysterio.
Chestnut, a 16-time victor at Nathan’s annual Fourth of July competition, has taken home the prize for the last eight consecutive years. He broke the previous world record last year by consuming an impressive 76 hot dogs within just 10 minutes.
In June, it was decided that Takeru Kobayashi, a well-known participant in Coney Island’s famous Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, would not be allowed to compete on the Fourth of July following his agreement with vegan hot dog manufacturer, Impossible Foods.
In the early 2000s, Kobayashi held the title of six-time Nathan’s champion by winning for six consecutive years. However, it was in 2007 that Chestnut broke this streak and marked their first victory over Kobayashi. From then on, these two competitors had a fierce rivalry throughout the mid 2000s. Their last competition took place in 2009, with Chestnut ultimately coming out on top once again.
