Joe Rogan Slams COVID Vaccines, Trans People in Live Netflix Special ‘Burn the Boats’: ‘Anybody Who Complains Is a Nazi’

As someone who has grown up listening to and appreciating the unique blend of comedy, insight, and conversation that Joe Rogan brings to his podcast and stand-up specials, I must admit that I found myself somewhat torn while watching “Burn the Boats.” On one hand, I’ve always admired Rogan for his ability to tackle complex topics with humor and openness, pushing boundaries and encouraging thoughtful discussion. However, in this latest special, some of his jokes about COVID vaccines, trans people, and gay men felt like a step too far, veering into territory that seemed more divisive than enlightening.

In his latest stand-up act, comedian and podcast host Joe Rogan addressed topics such as COVID-19 vaccinations and transgender individuals.

On Saturday night, I tuned in to Rogan’s fresh release, “Burn the Boats,” which premiered on Netflix. It echoed some contentious perspectives he had previously expressed on his podcast. However, he exhibited a self-effacing approach towards the influence he perceives he has on our culture.

“He jokingly warned, ‘This could be false information,’ emphasizing his reputation for spreading such things.”

Rogan discussed his skepticism of COVID vaccines early in the special.

“He found COVID to be incredibly bizarre. Many people lost their lives due to it, and unfortunately, some who survived are still absent from his life now. Before the pandemic, he would have argued that vaccines were the most groundbreaking inventions in human history. However, after experiencing COVID, he began questioning the authenticity of various things. He suggested that we never actually landed on the moon, Michelle Obama might be a man, Pizzagate is true, and there are direct energy weapons hidden in Antarctica. But let’s make it clear, he was just joking about Michelle Obama having a male anatomy; however, he does believe in all those other theories.”

A little later, he addressed the criticism surrounding his COVID-related podcast conversations, stating, “Is it fair to blame me if you’re relying on me for your vaccine information?”

In the same vein as comedians like Dave Chappelle and Ricky Gervais, who have faced criticism for their trans-related jokes, Rogan initiated a similar line of humor with jabs about “pregnant men” and further expanded it to express his opinion that the acceptance of transgender individuals in American culture may be progressing too rapidly.

He expressed that he’s receptive to new ideas, “I’m open-minded,” he said. “I’m curious to understand the situation better. It seems as though someone with mystical powers cast a spell over the entire world. ‘Now, with this wand, you can enter the women’s locker room, bold and unashamed,’ he declared, and it functions! People accept it as the new norm, and it’s quite bizarre.”

In time, my focus shifted towards men who identify as gay, and I found myself expressing, “I hold no malice towards anyone. I appreciate everyone, including gay men. However, much like mountain lions, I admire their existence, but prefer a distance from them. They are simply men who engage in intimate relationships with other men. Frankly, I don’t envision favorable outcomes, understand? They’re not mythical creatures – they’re just men who choose to be with other men. And every man, regardless of his claims, is a bit shady, let me assure you. That’s just a fact.”

As a movie enthusiast, I recently had the chance to witness “Burn the Boats” live at the magnificent Majestic Theatre in San Antonio. This comedy special marks six long years since my last one, which was “Strange Times” back in 2018. Interestingly enough, this is the third consecutive special of mine that found its home on Netflix, a collaboration that began with “Triggered” in 2016.

Over the past year and a half, Netflix has created several notable live comedy productions, such as Chris Rock’s 2023 stand-up special “Selective Outrage,” John Mulaney’s latest talk show, “Everybody’s in LA,” and May’s roast of Tom Brady, titled “The Roast of Tom Brady.”
