Joe Rogan refused to pay $500 fee to be nominated for Golden Globes’ Best Podcast Award

Joe Rogan revealed the reason he wasn’t nominated for the Golden Globes’ first-ever Best Podcast award: he wouldn’t pay the $500 submission fee.

No matter what you think of his views, Joe Rogan is currently the most popular podcaster in the world. By 2025, he had spent six years as the number one podcast on Spotify, and also remained at the top of the charts on Apple and YouTube.

The Joe Rogan Experience podcast became incredibly popular, earning it a spot among the top 25 podcasts considered for a Golden Globe award. For the first time ever, the 2026 Golden Globes will recognize podcasts, traditionally focusing on movies and television.

Amy Poehler received the inaugural ‘Good Hang’ award, a new prize launched in 2025. Many wondered why Joe Rogan didn’t win, or even receive a nomination. The reason? He declined to pay the required entry fee for consideration.

Joe Rogan missed Golden Globes awards after refusing to pay $500 entry fee

Joe Rogan explained on his show that to be considered for nomination, he was asked to submit an application and pay a $500 fee, as Variety first reported.

I refused to participate. It doesn’t interest me at all. It feels like a random group decided to start handing out awards.

Joe Rogan emphasized his continued success, stating, “It’s clear I’ve won. I’ve been the most popular podcast for six years running.”

Suddenly, you’re standing in front of a crowd in formal wear, and you’re expected to accept not being the best? That’s unacceptable. It’s not about wanting to be number one, but the fact is, I am.

Rogan congratulated Poehler on her win, explaining that she won because he didn’t enter the competition himself.

“A lot of people say, ‘Why did Amy Poehler win?’ I didn’t submit,” Rogan exclaimed.

It probably is a good product, since it won an award. People must like it; otherwise, they wouldn’t have chosen it. I know Amy Poehler was a winner, and it seems like some people aren’t happy about that.

She’s been running a podcast for half a year and recently won an award. It seems like a well-known personality was chosen, which is typical for that industry.

The full list of nominees for the Golden Globe award was as follows:

  • Good Hang with Amy Poehler (Winner)
  • Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard
  • Call Her Daddy
  • SmartLess
  • The Mel Robbins Podcast
  • Up First (NPR)

It’s uncertain if Rogan will feel differently when next year’s awards are announced, but for now, he seems confident and believes his position at the top of the charts is well-deserved.
