Jody Frisch, Entertainment and Washington PR Pro Who Worked for WGA, SAG-AFTRA, Craig Anderson Prods., Dies at 68

As someone who had the immense privilege of knowing Jody Frisch, I can honestly say that she was a true powerhouse in the world of communications and beyond. Her life journey, from growing up in the San Fernando Valley to making her mark in Hollywood and Washington, D.C., is nothing short of inspiring.

Jody Frisch, a seasoned communications professional with extensive experience in both Hollywood and Washington D.C., passed away on August 21 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles due to pancreatic cancer. She was 68 years old.

Frisch spent her professional journey with various organizations, including the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and SAG-AFTRA. At WGA, from 2006 to 2009, she held positions as the director of public policy and government affairs. This time frame included the guild’s 100-day strike in late 2007 to mid-February 2008. She worked for WGA both in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. After that, she joined SAG-AFTRA as a strategic communications and public affairs executive in the year 2015.

Born and raised in Los Angeles, specifically the San Fernando Valley, Frisch completed her high school education at Birmingham High School, Van Nuys, in 1973. Subsequently, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she honed her skills in politics and the legislative system. Throughout her extensive career, Frisch has been recognized for her work in managing media campaigns, navigating crises and protecting reputations, as well as advocating for public policies.

Initially, she had jobs promoting the stage performances of “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Miss Saigon,” under the guidance of theater impresario Cameron Mackintosh. In the 1990s, she worked for Craig Anderson Productions. During the 1980s and ’90s, she served as the long-term representative for the famous actress Meredith Baxter Birney from “Family Ties.”

In Washington D.C., Frisch was employed by several organizations such as Planned Parenthood, the BGR Group, the National Foreign Trade Council, and more. Her role included serving as the head of public relations for the American Humane Association on a national level.

Beyond her career, Frisch had a deep affection for animals and was a staunch supporter of women’s equality. Arrangements are being made for a memorial event to honor her.
