Joaquin Phoenix Quits Movie 5 Days Before Filming, Losses Could Be In The Millions

As a long-time admirer of Joaquin Phoenix, it’s always fascinating to witness the enigmatic twists and turns his career takes. From his mesmerizing performance in Joker to his Oscar-winning role in The Master, he has consistently demonstrated an uncanny ability to immerse himself into characters that leave a lasting impact.

It’s been reported that the Academy Award-winning actor, Joaquin Phoenix, has stepped away from his upcoming project, with shooting scheduled to start in five days. This decision comes following speculation that he may have developed some reservations or apprehensions, often referred to as “cold feet.”

According to Variety, the actor Phoenix has withdrawn from an upcoming gay romance movie titled “Untitled Gay Romance Project,” directed by Todd Haynes (known for films like ‘I’m Not There’ and ‘Carol’). Phoenix had been deeply engaged in the project, collaborating with Haynes and Jon Raymond on the screenplay. The film sets had already been constructed in Guadalajara, Mexico, and deals were made with distributors.

The film is currently facing serious difficulties, as reported by the site, with Phoenix’s role unable to be filled again. All involved parties are yet to receive their payment, and potential losses for the movie may surpass six-figure amounts. Variety hinted at Phoenix possibly having second thoughts, but the exact reason remains unclear at this time.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that Danny Ramirez has been announced as my co-star for an upcoming film titled “Top Gun: Maverick”. This movie isn’t your typical love story; it’s set in the 1930s and revolves around two gentlemen. Now, here’s something interesting: Director Todd Haynes plans to give this movie an NC-17 rating and fill it with explicit scenes that delve deep into the characters’ relationships.

In late July, separately reported by Deadline, Phoenix is said to have left the film set. Additionally, the report hinted that Ramirez traveled to San Diego for Comic-Con without certainty about whether the Haynes movie would indeed be produced.

It’s not the first instance where a movie starring Phoenix has been halted right before filming began. Back in 2023, the independent production, The Island, which had Phoenix and Rooney Mara in leading roles, was abruptly stopped on the brink of filming due to complications related to its insurance coverage.

In the upcoming DC movie “Joker: Folie a Deux,” I’ll make my return as the character I portrayed, which earned me an Oscar in 2019. Additionally, you’ll find me on the big screen again in Ari Aster’s latest project titled “Eddington.”
