Jiro Ishii recently kicked off a crowdfunding initiative on Ubgoe for a fresh live-action adventure game based in Shibuya. Within mere hours of its debut at 19:00 JST today, it was fully funded with contributions from 479 backers totaling around $51,125, surpassing the initial target of $34,615 by 147%.
The freshly introduced game is set to build upon the achievements of 428: Shibuya Scramble, a project that Ishii helmed as the executive producer. However, unlike a direct continuation, this new title will tell its own self-contained story.
In the upcoming game, Fumio Kitagami, famously known for his role as freelance writer Minoru Minorikawa in 428, is set to reappear as Reporter M. Moreover, Masakazu Arai, who previously played detective Keima Amemiya in Chunsoft’s 1998 Sega Saturn adventure game named Machi, will return as Detective K. The players will have the opportunity to delve into two distinct stories that individually center around these characters.
Apart from Jiro Ishii, a team roster for the latest game was also released, most of whom had experience with either 428 or Machi. However, one notable exception is Art Director Minoboshi Taro, who has gained fame through his projects in Konami’s Love Plus and Kadokawa’s God Wars: Future Past.
- Writer: Yukinori Kitajima (prev. 428: Shibuya Scramble)
- Photographer: Ayumu Iino (prev. 428: Shibuya Scramble)
- Composer: Hideki Sakamoto (prev. 428: Shibuya Scramble)
- Scenario Assist: Kazuya Asano (prev. the director of Machi)
On the Japanese crowdfunding platform, you’ll find a few demonstrative gameplay trailers as well. Feel free to check them out just underneath this text.
In addition to the project details on the Japanese crowdfunding site, they’ve provided some sample gameplay trailers for viewing. You can watch these directly below here.
The crowdfunding event for our project continues until July 25th. But, it’s important to note that the majority of the backer options, including your chance to help choose the game’s name, will only be available until June 22nd. So, don’t miss out on this opportunity!
The FAQ section of the campaign additionally clarifies that individuals living beyond Japan are welcome to support the project through the Japanese site, with PayPal being the sole payment option. It’s recommended to utilize a shipping service such as Tenso for handling any physical rewards.
After successfully funding the project through a swiftly successful crowdfunding campaign, Jiro Ishii intends to officially unveil his new game once the prototype has been completed, which he aims to do by the end of 2025.
