Jiro Ishii’s new Shibuya live-action adventure game crowdfunding campaign in Japan funded instantly

Jiro Ishii recently initiated a crowdfunding project on the Japanese platform Ubgoe for a fresh live-action adventure game based in Shibuya. Remarkably, the campaign surpassed its initial goal of 5 million yen within merely two hours following its launch at 19:00 JST today (or 10:00 UTC). By 21:00 JST, a total of 479 backers had contributed an impressive sum of 7,383,531 yen, which equates to approximately $51,125 – representing 147% of the original funding target.

In this upcoming game, we’ll build upon the achievements of the previous title, 428: Shibuya Scramble, with Ishii serving as executive producer. Unlike a sequel, it will tell its own unique story. The actor who played freelance writer Minoru Minorikawa in 428, Fumio Kitagami, is set to reprise his role as Reporter M in this new game. Additionally, Masakazu Arai, known for portraying detective Keima Amemiya in Chunsoft’s 1998 Sega Saturn adventure game Machi, will appear as Detective K. Players can look forward to exploring two distinct narratives centered around these characters.

Jiro Ishii additionally shared a roster of principal team members for the upcoming game, most of whom had prior experience with 428 or Machi, except for the art director Minoboshi Taro, who primarily contributed to Konami’s Love Plus and Kadokawa’s God Wars: Future Past.

  • Writer: Yukinori Kitajima (prev. 428: Shibuya Scramble)
  • Photographer: Ayumu Iino (prev. 428: Shibuya Scramble)
  • Composer: Hideki Sakamoto (prev. 428: Shibuya Scramble)
  • Scenario Assist: Kazuya Asano (prev. the director of Machi)

The FAQ section of the campaign additionally clarifies that individuals living beyond Japan are welcome to support this project via the Japanese website. Payment can only be made through PayPal, and it’s recommended to utilize services like Tenso for shipping physical rewards.

Based on the successful funding of the crowdfunding campaign, Jiro Ishii intends to officially unveil the newly developed game once he completes its prototype by the end of 2025.
