Jessica Alba Boards Switzerland’s Oscar Entry ‘Queens’ as Executive Producer (EXCLUSIVE)

As a seasoned cinephile with a penchant for stories that resonate deeply and reflect diverse experiences, I am genuinely excited about the upcoming film “Queens.” Having lived through similar tumultuous times in my own youth during the 90s, I can appreciate the authenticity and poignancy that Klaudia Reynicke brings to this Swiss-Peruvian production.

Jessica Alba and Tracy Nyberg’s production company, Lady Metalmark Entertainment, have taken on the role of executive producers for the film “Queens,” which was chosen to represent Switzerland in the International Feature Film category at the Oscars.

In my perspective, this captivating movie chronicles the journey of two teenage sisters residing in Peru during the tumultuous year of 1992. Amidst the nation’s political turmoil, their mother plans to relocate our family to the United States. However, a crucial hurdle arises – they require their long-absent father to sign consent forms. In an unexpected turn of events, he reappears, determined to regain the affection of his two cherished “queens.

I’m thrilled to be part of the outstanding cast of “Abril Gjurinovic, Luana Vega, and Jimena Lindo” in our film. This year, we’ve garnered remarkable recognition, including winning the Audience Award at the Locarno Film Festival and the Grand Prix in Generation Kplus at the Berlinale. Our journey began with a world premiere at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival.

Reynicke, who collaborated with Diego Vega Vidal on the screenplay, drew inspiration from her own personal journey as a young girl emigrating from Peru during tumultuous political times in the early 90s. Presently residing in Switzerland, this film is a joint venture between Swiss and Peruvian production companies.

The films is a great fit for actor, producer and businesswoman Alba (she founded the Honest Company). Her shingle Lady Metalmark Entertainment is committed to work with diverse artists and to champion female-driven, culturally diverse and Latino inspired stories.

Alba and Nyberg expressed their delight in taking on the role of executive producers for Klaudia Reynicke’s remarkable film ‘Queens’. In their statement, they praised the movie for its portrayal of a mother’s indomitable strength and her unyielding determination to secure a brighter future for her children. The film, set against the raw beauty of Lima, Peru, is a testament to Klaudia’s exceptional directing skills – a talent we can’t wait for viewers to experience as they share in Elena’s journey and that of her daughters, a tale that will linger in hearts long after the final credits.
