Jeremy Strong Gets Opportunity to Take Something Very Seriously

Is there any actor today who would approach the task of selecting a Palme d’Or winner with more gravity than Jeremy Strong? He seems to be an ideal choice for this year’s Cannes Film Festival jury. Notably, four out of the last five Palme winners have been nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars (with two taking home the award), prompting broader audiences to engage with non-English language films such as “Anatomy of a Fall” and “Parasite”. With this in perspective, let me share some details about the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, including the jury lineup, schedule, and confirmed awards.

Who’s on the jury?

This year, Juliette Binoche is serving as the jury president. She’ll be accompanied by a variety of distinguished figures from the cinematic community, such as American actors Strong and Halle Berry, Indian director Payal Kapadia (known for “All We Imagine As Light”), Italian actress Alba Rohrwacher (famous for “I Am Love”), French-Moroccan author Leïla Slimani (writer of “Adèle”), Congolese documentarian Dieudo Hamadi (“Downstream to Kinshasa”), South Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo (“Walk Up”), and Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas (“Silent Light”).

What movies are on the lineup?

Discover the complete list of films here. Some highly anticipated movies at this festival include Ari Aster’s “Eddington”, Wes Anderson’s “The Phoenician Scheme”, Kelly Reichardt’s “The Mastermind”, and Joachim Trier’s “Sentimental Value”. When is it happening?

The celebration begins on May 13 and concludes on May 24. During the final event, which will take place in France on France Télévisions, the winners will be shown live. Additionally, the broadcast will be available internationally via Brut.

Any awards for sure?

This year, I’m thrilled to share that Festival de Cannes will be bestowing an honorary Palme d’Or upon me, Robert De Niro, from across the ocean. Upon hearing this news, as reported in a press release, I couldn’t help but express my deep affection for the festival: “Festival de Cannes holds a special place in my heart,” I said. “Amidst all the global divisions, Cannes serves as a unifying force – a gathering of storytellers, filmmakers, cinema enthusiasts, and friends. It’s like returning home.

Anything else I need to know?

It’s pronounced like can.
